The Magic have made contact with starting center Tony Battie's representatives to talk about re-signing him for next season and beyond.

Magic Assistant General Manager Otis Smith said the club has had "some early'' discussions with Battie's agent.

Battie, who turns 30 today, is in the final year of his contract. Smith said there was a chance Battie could be re-signed before the end of the season, although Battie likely will wind up testing the free-agent market this summer.

"We like Tony and we hope to get something done,'' Smith said.
