The Celtics extended a contract offer to free agent Corey Maggette on Tuesday, according to The Boston Globe.

Danny Ainge also made an offer to James Posey, but it is doubtful that Boston would be able to sign both of the players.

They reportedly offered Maggette the mid-level exception, worth roughly $5.8 million.

"I was very surprised they called. They just came off a championship," said Maggette in a phone interview.

"It's a great honor to even hear from them," Maggette added. "Hopefully, I can look at some of the options. That's a good option playing for those guys."
