76ers general manager Ed Stefanski defended the signing of Elton Brand in Wednesday's Philadelphia Inquirer.

"The majority of people around here were for it," Stefanski said of the signing last summer. "Has he been injured often in the last few years? Yes. But is he injury-prone? No. That's a freak accident to come down on your shoulder. We're anxious to see what happens when we put him back in the lineup. We don't feel it was a mistake."

Stefanski went on to deny that the team considered trading Brand prior to his season-ending shoulder injury.

"No. That never happened," he said.
