The Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves remain engaged in trade talks centered around D'Angelo Russell. The New York Knicks have also registered interest in Russell.

The Warriors are only willing to consider a Russell deal if it includes significant draft pick compensation, but the Wolves are reluctant to part with too much draft capital as they are in a rebuild. The Wolves have so far been unwilling to part with their 2020 unprotected first round pick.

“There is a deal to be had here,” one source said, “but something would have to give.”

The Warriors could decide to hold onto Russell until the offseason when more deals could materialize after they are no longer hard capped.

The Wolves also pursued Russell in free agency last offseason, but he chose to sign with the Warriors given their capacity to sign him to a full max.

Russell is close friends with Karl-Anthony Towns.
