The Miami Heat are positioned as the frontrunners to land Kyle Lowry in a sign-and-trade agreement once free agency opens.

Lowry has long been linked with the Heat and pursued a trade for him at last season's deadline.

Goran Dragic and Precious Achiuwa could be the central park of a package to Toronto for Lowry. The Heat picked up the option on Dragic's $19.4 million contract for the 2021-2022 season.

A market exists for Dragic to move to a third team such as the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans. Both the Mavericks and Pelicans are also pursuing Lowry so Dragic could become a consolation prize.

Miami doesn't have enough salary cap space to sign Lowry outright and the Heat are motivated to incentivize Toronto with assets. Both the Mavericks and Pelicans can sign Lowry outright, which would lead the Raptors to lose him for nothing in return.
