Griffin on target, Chandler soft?

May 31, 2001 7:50 AM

What someone brought up the Mihm-Magloire clash from last year which labelled Chris Mihm as soft, Tyson Chandler was defensive.  "People think the same about me as Mihm, that I'm soft. But I feel I'm nowhere near as soft, so when I go to these workouts, I try to . . . play more aggressively."  That was not Chandler's only problem. With his slender build he is more suited to play small forward in the NBA, which means he must prove he can shoot rather than bang down low.  "I missed some shots I normally make," said Chandler, 18. "But that happens. Some days, the shots aren't falling for you, so you have to do it other ways."

Eddie Griffin's shot, on the other hand, was on target during his one-on-one games against the other prospects, according to a source.  Not only that, Griffin sounded thrilled to be in the Berto Center.  "It's a great feeling to sit here in Bulls shorts," Griffin said. "I was thinking that Michael Jordan wore these shorts."  But with Jordan now with the Wizards, possibly as a player in 2002, Griffin covered all bases.  "I'd love to play with Jordan," said Griffin, a freshman from Seton Hall. "But we'll have to wait until the 27th to see how things go."

No Sure Thing...

May 30, 2001 3:47 AM

With the draft less than one month away, most draft experts are still saying that there is no sure pick amongst the crop.  That means that there is a risk for even the first overall pick, and an even bigger risk for the Bulls' #4.  Writes the Chicago Tribune's Chris King, "Since 1980, the fourth spot has not been kind. The No. 4 selection has produced only three All-Stars. However, out of the 21 No. 1 overall selections, 16 players were All-Stars at least once in their careers. But only eight of 21 No. 2 overall picks made the All-Star team."

Marcus Fizer warns the Bulls.

May 22, 2001 7:54 PM

While Marcus Fizer has been invited to work out with Karl Malone during the offseason, writes Daily Southtown's Paul Ladweski, he issued a sound warning to the Chicago Bulls that it would be a mistake to trade him.  "It would be a mistake to trade me," said Fizer, who was selected to the All-Rookie Second Team last week. "There's no question that I'm a better player now than at the start of the season. I've taken a different approach to the game. I'm more disciplined than I was before. I don't rush things as much as I did. Now I'm a lot more comfortable on the court."

Is Kobe better than Jordan?

May 22, 2001 6:53 AM

Who is to say Kobe Bryant isn't going to be better than Michael Jordan? Let's get that out on the table right now. He's a lot better than Jordan was at the same age."  says former Seattle coach Paul Westphal. "Kobe has a sense of the game similar to Michael in playmaking ability and skill," said Lakers coach Phil Jackson. What does Bryant think?  "It does bother me somewhat," Bryant said Sunday. "I want to be identified as my own player. There'll never be another Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan is the greatest player ever. No one can fill his shoes."

It is a debate that has been raging for time time among the NBA fans.  Who do you think will be the better player once their careers are finished?
