Jackson's Court Date Could Lead To Immediate Jail Time

Jan 24, 2007 6:36 AM

When Stephen Jackson, acquired by Golden State from the Indiana Pacers last week, appears in a Rochester Hills, Mich. courtroom on Friday, there is a chance that he could be immediately incarcerated for 93 days.

Even worse, if he's convicted of the three charges he faces in Indianapolis stemming from an early-morning Oct. 6 incident at an establishment called Club Rio, Jackson faces up to five more years of imprisonment.

"I worry about what I can control," Jackson said. "And the only thing I can control right now is living my life the right way and playing basketball."

Jackson's court appearance this week deals with the probation he's served since pleading no contest in September 2005 to misdemeanor assault charges from the infamous brawl between the Pacers and the Detroit Pistons in November 2004. Jackson went into the crowd after teammate Ron Artest and become involved in a melee with fans.

Originally, Friday's hearing was supposed to deal with some disputed medical costs for one of the fans involved in the brawl. But the Club Rio incident opened up whole new avenues.

"It's conceivable that he could be missing some games," said Paul Walton, the Oakland County prosecutor in charge of the case.

"That was the last straw," said a source. "They saw what was happening and didn't want (Jackson) to be a negative influence on Granger."

The Pacers denied a report on Thursday that indicated they were trying to trade Mike Dunleavy to the Clippers in exchange for Corey Maggette.

"Absolutely untrue," Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh said.

"I talked to Indiana today for 45 minutes and there was no talk of any kind of deal," coach Mike Dunleavy told Los Angeles-area reporters. "He's there because they want him there."

Official: Warriors And Pacers Complete Blockbuster Deal

Jan 17, 2007 2:03 PM

The Golden State Warriors have acquired forward Al Harrington, guard/forward Stephen Jackson, guard Sarunas Jasikevicius and forward Josh Powell from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for forwards Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy, Ike Diogu and guard Keith McLeod, it was announced today by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin.

"We are excited about this trade," said Mullin. "As I've said on several occasions, we are always looking to make our basketball team better and, with this move, I think we have accomplished that goal. We have acquired players who will fit in very well with our particular style of basketball.  As with any trade, we also had to surrender players that we like both on and off the court. I think this transaction will be good for both teams and all of the players involved."

?We feel we made a pretty significant trade for the franchise that will be good for both teams,? said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. ?Trades are always painful because you give up players you like, but in this case, we think it?s a good trade that works for both teams. We feel the players we got will make a significant difference in the franchise.?
