No way of knowing how serious it is yet, but Reggie Miller could be a candidate for the Mavericks' vacant roster spot.

Owner Mark Cuban brought up Miller's name before Monday's game against the Hawks. The former Indiana Pacers star is the No. 1 3-point shooter in NBA history. He retired after the 2004-05 season, but remains in excellent physical shape.

Artest Skips Indy Homecoming

Feb 26, 2007 5:38 AM

Sacramento forward Ron Artest missed the Kings' game Sunday night against the Indiana Pacers, his former team.

Artest was not with the team for personal reasons, a team spokesman said without elaborating. Artest was not listed on the injury report.

Artest was disliked by Indiana fans for his role in the brawl between Pacers players and Pistons fans two seasons ago and for his public trade request last season.

In his return to Conseco Fieldhouse as a King last season, Artest scored 18 points, but shot 6-for-22 from the field, including 2-for-14 in the second half, in a 98-93 loss. Pacers fans booed him loudly every time he touched the ball.

Pacers Want Walsh To Keep Going

Feb 23, 2007 6:27 AM

Before the season, Donnie Walsh spoke of this season being his last and the Pacers' media guide paid tribute to him on their cover.

But Herb Simon said Thursday he plans to offer Walsh a contract to return.

"A man with his prestige, he can do it any way he wants to do it," Simon said. "One year, two years, 10 years, we'll work it out.

"I've told him, 'To be honest, what else are you going to do?' He's so wrapped up in his team and his family. I wish he would take it easier emotionally and not get so distraught when we lose. But he loves what he does and we love having him."

Jackson Says He Was "Trying To Break It Up"

Feb 12, 2007 1:24 PM

Former Indiana Pacers guard Stephen Jackson testified Monday that he fired shots in the air during a fight outside a strip club last year to try to break up the brawl.

Jackson and ex-teammate Jamaal Tinsley took the witness stand during a bench trial in Marion Superior Court for a man accused of hitting Jackson with a car during the Oct. 6 fight outside Club Rio.

Jackson, who now plays for the Golden State Warriors, testified that when he was walking from the club to his car, a man approached him shouting, "Go ahead and dump, dump!"

"Where I'm from, 'dump' means pull out your gun and shoot," he said.

Foster Defends Tinsley

Feb 12, 2007 12:07 PM

Pacers' center Jeff Foster defended teammate Jamaal Tinsley to the media yesterday, showing why many Indiana fans call him "Feisty."

"I spent three hours the other night defending Jamaal to people,'' said Jeff Foster, who was here when the building was filled and vibrant. "I don't necessarily know what happened (at the nightclub), but I know he wasn't involved. I just don't feel like, with the fans or the media, that we're getting the benefit of the doubt. There's supposed to be due process, but whatever we do, we're guilty.

"What happens if everybody is exonerated, there are no charges, nothing? Will that be covered as zealously as the police report was?''
