Anthony Davis: I Think We've Got Everything We Need, We Can Definitely Make A Run

Mar 30, 2023 12:59 PM

Anthony Davis has faith in what the Los Angeles Lakers can accomplish in the playoffs if they qualify.

"I think we've got everything we need. It's just about going out and applying it," said Davis after putting up 38 points and 10 rebounds in L.A.'s 121-110 win over the Chicago Bulls. "We can definitely make a run. We've got all the right pieces from top to bottom."

Davis was joined by LeBron James, D'Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves and Jarred Vanderbilt in the starting lineup, which was the 38th combination to start for the Lakers this season.

"I think the No. 1 thing is we have multiple ball handlers," James said of the starting group. "So no one has to feel stressed handling the ball every possession. We got shot makers in that starting lineup. And we have a lot of length."

LeBron James May Need To Undergo Offseason Surgery On Torn Tendon In Foot

Mar 27, 2023 11:16 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James appear to have been on different pages on his injury timeline as he returned from his foot injury on Sunday earlier than expected.

James missed 13 games before returning from the torn tendon in his right foot.

James said he consulted with a doctor who is "the LeBron James of feet." James declined to close the doctor's name or where he practices.

"He told me I shouldn't [get surgery]," James said.

Last week, James Tweeted a stern response to the announcement from the Lakers that he was reevaluated.

Before the game, James sat before his locker tying his shoes and listening to music through headphones.

“Stay the f— up out my business,” James yelled and repeated as he quoted lyrics of the song he was listening to, according to The Athletic.

James said surgery remains possible after the season.

“I don’t know,” James said. “Right now, I don’t need it, so we’ll see what happens. I’ll probably get another MRI at the end of the season and go from there. But if I end up having to get surgery after the season, you guys won’t know. I don’t talk to you guys in the offseason, and by the time next season starts, I’ll be fine. I’ll be ready to go.”

LeBron James To Come Off Bench In Sunday Return Vs Bulls

Mar 26, 2023 3:09 PM

After being upgraded from out to doubtful to questionable over the last few days, LeBron James will be available to play for the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. James tested his foot pregame and will play for the first time since a 13-game absence due to a sore right foot.

In a twist, James will come off the bench for Los Angeles against the Chicago Bulls. This is just the second time James has appeared in a game as a reserve in his 20-year NBA career. The last time James came off the bench, was following a thumb injury early in the 2007-08 season. He played 23 minutes and scored 17 points as a reserve in a Cleveland Cavaliers victory over the Indiana Pacers on December 11, 2007.

LeBron James Upgraded To Doubtful For Sunday's Game

Mar 25, 2023 7:58 PM

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has been upgraded to doubtful for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bulls. This is the first time James has been listed as anything but "out" since February 26.

In that game on February 26, James reported that he felt a pop in his right foot. James has been out since then, with what's been listed as right foot soreness.

The 20-year veteran has missed the Lakers last 13 games. During that time, Los Angeles has gone 8-5. That solid play has seen the Lakers push up to eighth place in the Western Conference. As of the start of play on Saturday, the Lakers are only two games out of fifth place in the conference.

Anthony Davis: I Love Playing For The Lakers

Mar 24, 2023 11:44 AM

Anthony Davis can become a free agent in 2024 and his future with the Los Angeles Lakers is uncertain. The deal Davis is on aligns with LeBron James, who is 38 and has spoken about trying to play on the same team as his son, Bronny James, before retiring.

Davis, however, continues to have a goal of winning another title with the Lakers.

"To be a part of the legacy already of winning a championship, you want to win more," Davis said. "We're tied with Boston at 17, it's like, I want to be part of the one that makes it 18 and this franchise No. 1."

Davis signed a long-term deal with the Lakers in 2020 even though he could have made more money by signing a short-term deal that would have allowed him to get 35 percent of the max in 2022.

"I love being in L.A. My family loves it. I love playing for the Lakers," Davis said. "When the time is up, honestly, I'm not sure the direction the team wants to go or who knows the conversation we'll have. But when the time comes, we'll sit down, have those conversations and go from there."

Anthony Davis: Me And LeBron Have One Of The Best Relationships In NBA

Mar 24, 2023 11:20 AM

The state of Anthony Davis' relationship with LeBron James came under scrutiny when James broke the all-time scoring record while Davis showed a lack of emotion. Davis had just returned to the Los Angeles Lakers' bench after letting out a scream

"From the outside looking in, they don't know," Davis said of his perceived bad body language. "It's not for them to know seriously, but me and Bron are fine. You can tell when we had our moments, for sure. But I think it's people just looking for a story."

Davis was unwavering in describing his bond with James.

"Me and Bron have one of the best relationships I think in the NBA as far as duos or teammates, regardless," Davis said. "But they don't see that. They don't see the stuff we do off the court and time we hang out with each other. They see on-court stuff."

Dennis Schroder sees a change in Davis now compared to his first stint with the Lakers.

"It's better than the first time I was here," Schroder told ESPN. "More vocal. ... I mean, I didn't know him the first time I was here. But this year he's doing a great job. I think he learned from LeBron as well. Talking to his teammates, especially on the defensive end. It's a big growth from that first year to this year."

Lakers Unlikely To Pursue Kyrie Irving In Free Agency

Mar 22, 2023 1:11 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers are unlikely to pursue Kyrie Irving in free agency, sources tell Jovan Buha of The Athletic. The Lakers prefer to keep their trade deadline additions rather than gutting their roster to create the necessary cap space to sign Irving.

To create enough cap space to sign Irving, the Lakers would have to renounce D'Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura while also declining their team option on Malik Beasley, and also waiving Jarred Vanderbilt and Mo Bamba.

The Dallas Mavericks traded for Irving shortly before the deadline and are interested in re-signing him in free agency. The Phoenix Suns also pursued a trade for Irving and have also been linked with him for the upcoming offseason depending on how their season plays out.
