Bynum Will Return After All-Star Break

Jan 29, 2013 9:53 AM

Andrew Bynum has decided to make his return from injury in the period right after the All-Star break.

There had been an increased hope that Bynum would make his debut before the break.

“I talked about that for a while,” said Bynum. “I think giving myself a full other week of training camp is going to be better than trying to come back before that. To me, it doesn’t really matter when I come back.”

Bynum could begin practicing as soon as Monday.

“He’s finishing up the last phase and then he’ll start to do more and more basketball-related activities and slowly build up to where he can get out there and practice 5-on-5 with the team,” Tony DiLeo said.

“The most critical part of his program is coming up. Once he gets out there in basketball action — against defenders, running, jumping, cutting — that’s a critical part to see how he reacts to that.”

Bynum Could Return Before All-Star Break

Jan 28, 2013 7:57 AM

Andrew Bynum could begin full practice by the end of this week and may return to the Philadelphia 76ers shortly thereafter unless he has a setback with his ailing knees, according to Tony DiLeo.

"We're hoping for the first of February for practice," DiLeo said. "But we have to just wait and see how it goes. He's done a lot of work, but he hasn't had to go hard and stop and start. That will be important."

Barring setback, the 76ers are hoping to bring back Bynum for a game or two before the All-Star break. Seeing him back on the court before the break would allow the 76ers to evaluate the center.

"We're saying all-star break," DiLeo said. "It could be a little before the break or a little after. Both are possible."

Bynum Optimistic About Return, Lateral Movements Will Be Biggest Test

Jan 21, 2013 8:14 PM

Andrew Bynum continues to target a return from his injured knees after the All-Star break.

“This is the first time this season I have been at the shootaround and I have been involved a little in practice just shooting around with the guys,” Bynun said before Monday’s game with the San Antonio Spurs. "My knees feel good and I am not in any pain and it’s all good and I want to keep going.”

Bynum is optimistic but cautious.

“I still haven’t done lateral movement and that will be the biggest test,” Bynum said. “Cutting is the last thing to do and I think I am building up to that slowly but surely.”

Bynum has yet to play for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Jason Richardson Had Knee Drained

Jan 19, 2013 11:37 AM

Jason Richardson underwent a knee draining procedure before the Philadelphia 76ers’ Friday overtime win over the Toronto Raptors.

Richardson was in the starting lineup against Toronto.

"It felt good after getting all that out there, getting the swelling down," Richardson said.

Doug Collins left the decision up to Richardson to play.

"If he feels he can go, I don't want him to feel like we don't want him out there to play," Collins said. "I learned a long time ago from Michael Jordan, when guys want to play and you hold them out, eventually they won't want to play."

76ers Plan To Use Financial Flexibility Moving Forward

Jan 13, 2013 2:31 PM

Aside from Andrew Bynum, the Philadelphia 76ers have several players whose contracts will come off the books after this season.

At that point, the 76ers' plan will be to take advantage of the flexibility -- which is why any move in the middle of this season will have the future in mind.

"We have a lot of questions that we want to answer and they still aren't answered," Tony DiLeo said. "We have to be patient and try to get some answers. But for the future, we feel we're in good position, we feel we have a lot of options, so we'll just try to answer those questions and move on. We built this team and we want to see this team on the court [with Bynum] and see how we can play with this team. On the other hand, if there is an opportunity that arises that we think can improve our team, then we'll do that. But we don't want to jeopardize anything for the future."
