Suns Plan On Signing Mike James To Standard Contract

Nov 20, 2017 6:23 PM

The Phoenix Suns would like to sign Mike James to a standard NBA deal before Dec. 6 when his two-way contract expires.

The Suns will need to create a roster spot in order to sign James to a contract.

James went undrafted in 2012 out of Lamar and has since played in Europe before making the Suns' roster as a two-way player out of camp.

With the trade of Eric Bledsoe, James has received regular playing time with the Suns.

Nuggets Were Close To Trade With Suns For Eric Bledsoe

Nov 16, 2017 8:41 AM

The Denver Nuggets were close to a trade with the Phoenix Suns for Eric Bledsoe.

The deal would have included Emmanuel Mudiay and a first round pick, but talks ultimately collapsed.

Phoenix traded Bledsoe to the Milwaukee Bucks for protected first round pick and second round picks, along with Greg Monroe.

"We chase every opportunity to improve ourselves," Tim Connelly said. "We've had a lot of excellent players offered to us for our young talent. There's a fine line between overvaluing your own players and being too aggressive chasing short-term results."

Devin Booker Believes Suns 'Right On Track'

Nov 13, 2017 11:52 AM

Devin Booker remains optimistic that the Phoenix Suns are moving in the right direction long-term. The Suns had been straddling the line between rebuilding and trying to compete in the short-term but they've now fully embraced their rebuild.

"It's tough, because with the young team, we put so much work in out here," said Booker. "People don't realize how talented the NBA is. So if you don't have a lot of experience in this league it's hard to be a good team. People are saying, "What are the Suns doing?" and this and that."

"For us, we have to keep developing, and we know that. We have a really good young core that is competing against grown men. The Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, teams that have been together for five, 10-plus years. So I think we're right on track, honestly. In a few years with the experience that we have, with the young core that we have, we'll be in a good spot.

Suns Initially Told Earl Watson He Wouldn't Get Job Permanently

Nov 13, 2017 10:55 AM

Earl Watson spoke candidly about his tenure as head coach of the Phoenix Suns, which began on an interim basis in February of 2016.

“To be honest with you when I took over as interim,  management and ownership told me I would not be taking over the team permanently," said Watson on ESPN's The Hoop Collective. "So I think that was the first sign for me that no matter what was going to happen it was going to be short so make an impact and leave an imprint that whoever takes over and wherever they go … you left it better than what you found it. For us that was player development, creating a certain belief in young players.”

Watson was brought into a meeting with Robert Sarver and Ryan McDonough when he was informed he had been fired.

“I got a text message to come into the office. When that text came … I’m a very aware guy. I knew what the text was for … I will say that the only talking to me came from Robert Sarver. Ryan McDonough mostly wished me good luck at the end and the dialogue was about 30 to 40 minutes.”

Suns Interested In Jahlil Okafor

Nov 8, 2017 9:08 AM

The Phoenix Suns have interest in trading for Jahlil Okafor.

The Suns don't currently have a roster spot available, but that could change once they part ways with Greg Monroe via trade or buyout.

Phoenix is rebuilding and presumably view Okafor as a potential reclamation project.

The Philadelphia 76ers declined their team option on Okafor's contract for 18-19 and are attempting to facilitate a trade to give him playing time elsewhere. While Okafor isn't under contract next season, the Suns have sufficient cap space to re-sign him to a long-term deal should he play well.

Suns To Explore Greg Monroe Trades Before Discussing Buyout

Nov 8, 2017 9:03 AM

The Phoenix Suns will explore the trade market for Greg Monroe before engaging on buyout talks.

The Suns acquired Monroe as part of the Eric Bledsoe trade.

Monroe is on a $17.8 million expiring contract and doesn't fit into the Suns' long-term plans.

Monroe is unlikely to remain with the Suns past the trade deadline or buyout deadline.

The Suns will need a roster spot by Dec. 6th when the two-way contract of Mike James needs to convert into a regular roster spot.

Bucks Acquire Eric Bledsoe From Suns

Nov 8, 2017 8:40 AM

The Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns have agreed upon a trade of Eric Bledsoe for Greg Monroe and a first round pick and a second round pick.

The Bucks' first round pick will be conveyed to Phoenix if it falls between 11 and 16, 4-16 in 2019, 8-30 in 2020 before it becomes unprotected altogether in 2021. The Suns will also receive a second round pick in 2018 if it falls between picks 48 and 60. If the pick is not conveyed in 2018, it is extinguished

Bledsoe was sent home by the Suns at the end of the first week of the season while they searched for a trade partner. Bledsoe previously had met with Suns owner Robert Sarver and McDonough during the preseason and requested a trade.

Bledsoe has two seasons and $29 million remaining on his five-year, $70 million contract.
