Daryl Morey: Even We Had Doubts About James Harden Trade

Feb 26, 2015 2:44 PM

James Harden has become one of the NBA's best players since his trade to the Houston Rockets, but wasn't a clear-cut win at the time for Daryl Morey.

Some believed Harden would not be able to extend his production to superstar minutes when he was 6th Man of the Year with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"The Harden trade was about 60-40 in favor of our side at the time," said Morey. "Even we had doubts. You need to prepare yourself to be ready for those opportunities when they come. It's not like anyone's giving away these good players. You have to maneuver your way into them....The notion that people in analytics don't think talent wins is ludicrous."

Source: Thunder Don't Make Decisions Based On Whether Durant, Westbrook Will Approve

Feb 23, 2015 12:16 PM

The Oklahoma City Thunder aggressively remade their supporting cast via trades this season, acquiring Dion Waiters, Enes Kanter, D.J. Augustin, Kyle Singler and Steve Novak.

Kevin Durant will be a free agent in 2016 and Russell Westbrook follows one year later, but the Thunder front office doesn't operate "like, geez, are these guys gonna leave? Are these guys gonna be happy?," a league source said.

Kendrick Perkins was a beloved teammate the Thunder parted ways with at the deadline.

Cavaliers Appear To Be Preferred Team Of Kendrick Perkins

Feb 21, 2015 3:10 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are the frontrunners to sign Kendrick Perkins.

Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers still are pursuing Perkins, but he's said to be leaning strongly towards the Cavaliers.

One significant criteria for Perkins in choosing a team has been the opportunity for playing time.

Perkins and the Utah Jazz are close to agreement on a buyout.

Durant: Reggie Jackson Got What He Wanted

Feb 20, 2015 2:04 PM

The final months of Reggie Jackson's tenure with the Oklahoma City Thunder were acrimonious.

Two hours after word of Jackson's trade to the Detroit Pistons broke, Jackson tweeted, "Crying tears of joy #godisgreat."

"We felt like everybody wanted to be here except for one guy," said Kevin Durant.

Jackson wanted to have a starter's role and make starter's money, which was always going to be difficult if not impossible with Russell Westbrook ahead of him.

Jackson stopped attacking the basket with regularity, attempting 5.1 shots per 48 minutes in the restricted area this season compared to 6.1 last season.

As Durant said Thursday, "He got what he wanted. You can't really --."

Durant paused for a second to think, but he'd already said how he felt

"He got what he wanted," he repeated.

Westbrook, Durant Have No Desire To Be Consulted On Thunder Trade Decisions

Feb 20, 2015 10:53 AM

Russell Westbrook said he and Kevin Durant feel no need to be consulted at the trade deadline by the Oklahoma City Thunder front office.

Not my job,” Westbrook said. “My job is to come out and play. We have a great general manager, great owner and great coach who have done a great job thus far putting this team together. So I’m pretty sure they know what’s best for us.”

Westbrook was asked if Sam Presti ever comes to them to gather their feedback.

“I don’t want to repeat the same answer, so whatever I just said last time use it as that answer,” he said.

Reggie Jackson Traded To Pistons, Enes Kanter To Thunder

Feb 19, 2015 5:01 PM

Reggie Jackson has been traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Detroit Pistons.

The Thunder will acquire Enes Kanter as part of the three-team trade, while Kendrick Perkins will go to the Utah Jazz.

Kanter and the Jazz never had serious discussions on an extension, but the Thunder made the move with the intention of re-signing him. Kanter will be a restricted free agent this offseason.

D.J. Augustin and Steve Novak will also be acquired by the Thunder.

The Brooklyn Nets and Indiana Pacers were also interested in Jackson.

Jackson will be a restricted free agent this offseason after turning down a four-year, $48 million extension from the Thunder.

Perkins will be bought out by the Jazz, according to Royce Young of ESPN. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers could have interest in Perkins.
