Andrew Bogut Interested In Extension With Warriors

Mar 31, 2016 6:01 PM

Andrew Bogut will become eligible for a contract extension with the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 25th and he's hopeful of getting a new deal.

Bogut is currently scheduled to become a free agent in 2017.

The Warriors figure to have a busy offseason as they're expected to pursue Kevin Durant, while they also have the restricted free agencies of Festus Ezeli and Harrison Barnes to contend with.

"Yeah, I do," he said of hoping to get a deal done this summer. "But we'll see what happens. We all hear the rumors of other guys coming through here, so if that kind of stuff happens they'll be some shedding of some contracts so who knows what can happen. But you'd be silly to try and leave what's going on right now.... We'll have a few of us that will have opportunities. Obviously I'm contracted for next year, but at the same time if he they offer me an extension I'll definitely listen.

"Nothing's a given in this league. It's a physical league. Either way. I can do a deal now or wait an extra year and get more, it's not going to really change me financially too much. I've been pretty smart with my money. I can retire today and still not have to work another day in my life. It's not going to be a point where I'm going to be, 'Who's going to give me the most money.' It'll be the lifestyle, it'll be what's the team like, is the team any good. And the writing on the wall here is to try to stick around as long as they want me."

Bogut is willing to take less money for the guaranteed money of an extension.

"Yeah, but I'm not a greedy guy and I'm not stupid either," Bogut said. "I know I can get undercut by Amar'e Stoudemire and fall and break my other elbow. In my position, with the physicality that we take, I'd definitely listen to offers."

Bogut doesn't have a hunch on whether he will be able to get something done with the Warriors.

"No feel at all," he said when asked for his read on whether he will have a new contract before the end of summer. "Haven't discussed it. Who knows. This league's a funny league. Like I said, if those moves that are rumored happen there'll be a few of us that are gone. The way we can probably nip that in the bud is win another championship and they're forced to bring us back. They're stuck with us for longer."

David Lee Received Interest From Knicks After Buyout

Mar 31, 2016 12:20 PM

David Lee received interest from the New York Knicks after he was waived by the Boston Celtics.

The Knicks had an open roster spot at the time, but he ended up signing with the Dallas Mavericks.

Lee would consider the Knicks in the offseason.

“It’s my favorite city in the world as far as spending time there in the offseason,’’ Lee said. “A great organization. I always look back with a positive memory.

“[It’s] something we even discussed in the buyout process – had a conversation with them,’’ Lee added. “These next eight games are most important and we’ll deal with that later. … I’ll have some good choices. I’m looking forward to playing three, four more years. I feel my body feels as healthy as ever.”

Pelicans Sign James Ennis To 10-Day Contract

Mar 30, 2016 12:03 PM

The New Orleans Pelicans have signed James Ennis to a 10-day contract.

The Pelicans' continued injury issues will allow them to add another player.

Jrue Holiday, Alonzo Gee, Anthony Davis, Tyreke Evans, Quincy Pondexter and Eric Gordon are all out for the season.

Ennis is the 18th player on the Pelicans’ payroll, three more than the maximum allowed on a healthy NBA roster, but the league’s injury exception policy has allowed Dell Demps to add players to backfill the roster.

“We had more people in our picture than the Saints did in their team picture,” Alvin Gentry joked on Monday night.

Ennis played in 62 games with the Miami Heat last season, averaging 5 points, 2.8 rebounds and shooting 41 percent from the field in 17 minutes per game.

Cavs Confident LeBron James Won't Leave Again

Mar 29, 2016 12:30 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are confident LeBron James won't leave the franchise again this offseason, but they do acknowledge there is at least a slight possibility of that occurring depending on how they go out in the playoffs.

James returned to the Cavaliers in 2014 and they reached The Finals in his first year.

But James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love have struggled to maximize their collective talents.

James maintains the clout within the franchise to order a significant shake-up of their roster.

Heat Pleased With Progress Of Hassan Whiteside

Mar 28, 2016 1:08 PM

The Miami Heat have been encouraged by the progress made recently by Hassan Whiteside.

Whiteside will be a free in the offseason and the Heat do not own his Bird rights.

Pat Riley approached him recently “and told me how proud he was of me and to keep building on that,” Whiteside said.

“They haven't talked about [free agency],” he said. “They want to see how far we get this season with this team. Playoffs will speak a lot.

“I hope [there’s interest]. I like the organization. Pat Riley is always going to do a great job of adding people that are going to help you win. It's not hard to sell to come to Miami. You can always recruit great talent.”

He said he wants to “win more than anything” and believes he can do that here. “I don’t know too much about free agency yet,” he said. “I’m going to learn, though.”

Dirk Nowitzki Interested In Playing Beyond 2017

Mar 28, 2016 12:41 PM

Dirk Nowitzki is giving thought to playing beyond the final remaining season on his contract with the Dallas Mavericks.

Nowitzki said on ESPN Radio's "NBA Insiders" show that playing an even "20 years would sound really, really great."

Nowitzki is in his 18th season in the NBA.

"My goal was when I signed this three-year deal to fulfill that contract. And so if I play next year through, by that point I'll be 39. To be honest, 20 years [in the NBA] would sound really, really great. And next year would obviously be my 19th year, so maybe after this next year I could sign on one more. But I'll just have to wait and see, I think, at this point."

Nowitzki and the Mavericks are attempting to qualify for the playoffs.

"This season I felt good. Next year we'll see how it goes and then I can make that decision with my family, with [longtime shooting coach and mentor] Holger Geschwindner and all my guys that have been working with me for so long ... I can make that decision if I play one more season."
