The Canton Charge announced today that they have acquired the Idaho Stampede’s second round choice in the 2012 NBA Development League Draft and guard Loren Stokes (6-3, 175, Hofstra) from the Erie Bayhawks in a three-team deal. Canton sent guard Keith McLeod and their own 2012 fourth round pick to the BayHawks and Idaho received guard Devin Green from Erie to complete the trade.
"Everyone in the Canton Charge organization would like to thank Keith for his leadership and professionalism as he played an integral part in the beginnings of this franchise in Canton,” said Charge General Manager Wes Wilcox. “Because of his strong play and personal character, this was an opportunity for us to receive good value and a future asset in return. We wish Keith the best.”
The Austin Toros have signed 7-1, 240 pound center Luke Bonner.
Bonner played in 16 regular season games averaging four points and two rebounds in 2009-10 for Austin. In six playoff games, Bonner averaged 17 points and 13 rebounds. Bonner’s most recent play has been in Lithuania.
The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today that the team has acquired center Keith Benson from the available player pool. To make room for him on the roster the team waived forward Anthony Mason, Jr. due to injury.
Benson was waived by the Atlanta Hawks in training camp after being selected in the second round (48th overall) of the 2011 NBA Draft.
The Bakersfield Jam have acquired forward Chu Maduabum. Maduabum was the first Jam player and the third player ever drafted from the NBA D-League by an NBA team.
The Los Angeles Lakers selected Maduabum with the 56th overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft, trading his draft rights to the Denver Nuggets. He appeared in three games with the Jam during the 2010-11 season, averaging 0.7 points in 7.0 minutes.
The Erie BayHawks have acquired Devin Brown from the league's available player pool.
Brown (6-5, 210) is a product of the University of Texas-San Antonio and has played parts of eight NBA seasons with seven different teams including Denver, San Antonio, Utah, New Orleans, Cleveland and Chicago.
The Bakersfield Jam have acquired forward/center Jamie Vanderbeken, the team announced.
Most recently, Vanderbeken played overseas in Greece. During his senior year at Iowa State, he averaged 11.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 29 games. Vanderbeken was a member of the Canadian National Team in 2011.
Vanderbeken will make his Bakersfield debut this Thursday against the visiting Los Angeles D-Fenders.
To make room on the roster, the Jam waived guard Jeremy Hazell due to personal reasons.
The Mad Ants have acquired former Michigan State standout Travis Walton to help handle point guard duties after the recent call-up of Walker D. Russell, Jr. to the Detroit Pistons.
Walton is a 6’2 point guard who played earlier this season in the NBA Development League for the Dakota Wizards and averaged 4.8 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist in 19.8 minutes of action per game. Walton has prior professional playing experience in Switzerland and Germany, and he was the teammate of current Mad Ants center Sean Sonderleiter while playing in Germany.
While at Michigan State, Walton made a name for himself by being an excellent defender.
Last season, Daniels played in 38 games for the Legends, averaging 14.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game, before he signed with the Sixers.
Stefan Welsh was drafted by the Toros this season and played in six games averaging 10 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists before being released in December.
Patrick Ewing Jr. was named All-NBA D-League Third Team after averaging 17.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 49 games with Reno (26) and Sioux Falls (23) last season.
