Harrison Barnes On Season Potentially Resuming: 'You Want To Be Playing For Something'

May 31, 2020 2:21 PM

Harrison Barnes said he agrees with Damian Lillard's statement that he would only return to the court if there was something at stake.

“I think Dame is right. If you come back and play, you want to be playing for something," Barnes told Howard Beck on Beck's The Full 48 podcast.

Lillard said earlier this week that he would only play out this season if the Blazers had a chance to make the playoffs.

Barnes added that this current Kings team needs more game-time reps to come together as a group.

“There’s no other simulation that we can get for games. This group, where we’re at, we need to play, we need to play together, and playing for something is important.”

Brett Brown Says His Focus Is On 'What Works In The Playoffs'

May 16, 2020 3:01 PM

Brett Brown admitted he often thinks about his future with the Philadelphia 76ers, especially if the season didn't resume.

“I mean, you’re human. You think about it all the time. I wouldn’t say you think about it to the point where it weighs you down, but I get it," said Brown about his future with the team if the season was canceled.

Brown said he feels "respectfully cocky" about the work he and his coaching staff have done during the stoppage in play.

Brown said that his main focus is on the playoffs, adding that the Sixers' length could match up with any opponent.

“All of our attention during the regular season, and when we meet even now on the phone, is ‘what works in the playoffs’? I think if you took a ruler, a measuring stick, and you measured us wingspan to wingspan, we have the tallest team in the NBA. I think that we have opportunity to guard because of that length, and spirit, as well as anybody.”

NBA Poised To Lose $900M In National TV Money Alone If Playoffs Canceled

May 15, 2020 12:38 PM

The NBA will lose approximately $900 million in national television revenue from the playoffs alone if they cancel the remainder of the season, sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic

The NBA hopes to create a "campus-like" environment to resume the season to at least play the playoffs.

The NBA signed a nine-year, $24 billion television deal with ESPN and TNT in 2014 that reshaped the league's finances.

NBA Highly Unlikely To Have Postseason Play-In Tournament This Season

May 8, 2020 4:00 PM

The NBA has considered a postseason play-in tournament, but is considered highly unlikely, according to multiple league sources.

A tournament has been discussed as a way to draw interest late in the season before the start of the playoffs even before the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is ultimately considered too dramatic of a shift in the short term. Since the NBA already has its existing contracts with RSNs and national networks, the league feels the best use of time would be to fulfill those deals rather than introduce a new system.

NBA Needs 33 Days To Complete Regular Season, Maximum 55 Days For Full Playoffs

May 1, 2020 12:28 PM

The NBA needs approximately three months to fully complete their season while playing almost no back-to-backs.

There are 259 regular season games remaining on the schedule in the regular season, which would take 33 days.

To play a full four-round postseason with minimal days off, the NBA would need a maximum of 55 days.

The 2016 playoffs lasted 64 days from April 16th until Game 7 of The Finals between the Cavaliers and Warriors on June 19th.
