Markelle Fultz Says He's Thinking About Orlando Bubble 'Like It's Going To Be An AAU Tournament'

Jun 30, 2020 1:51 AM

Markelle Fultz compared the Orlando bubble to an AAU tournament-like feel due to the hotel setting.

"I've kind of been thinking about it like it's going to be an AAU tournament. You go on the road -- sometimes you have tournaments in your hometown, but you still stay in a hotel," said Fultz.

The Magic are currently a half-game behind the Nets for seventh place in the East.

Fultz said that he feels that the return of games can add to social justice movements across the country.

"I think as long as we're safe, this is something that we all need. Basketball is a big part of a lot of people's lives. Not just ours, but our families, people that just watch it. So I feel as though there's two ways to this path of the NBA returning. But I feel as though we can make it the best of both worlds, as long as we're doing everything that we can do for not only ourselves but standing up for what's right in this world."

John Wall Will Not Join Wizards In Orlando Due To Exposure Concerns

Jun 30, 2020 1:26 AM

Washington Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard said that John Wall will not join the team in Orlando due to exposure concerns surrounding COVID-19.

"Having somebody go into that bubble that’s not gonna play, that’s just more people going into the bubble. … I don’t think it’s wise to have people in and around the team that aren’t playing (because of) exposure," said Sheppard at a press conference on Monday.

Sheppard added that he hasn't received any indication that other players would opt out of going to Orlando after Davis Bertans declined to join the team.

Teams are allowed to bring 35 people into the bubble.

Sheppard said that the Wizards would "over-index on medical staff," as well as focus on player development coaches.

Wilson Chandler informed the Brooklyn Nets that he will not join the team once the season resumes in Orlando.

“As difficult as it will be to not be with my teammates, the health and well-being of my family has to come first. Thank you to the Nets organization for understanding and supporting me in this decision, and I will be watching and rooting for our team in Orlando," said Chandler.

Chandler averaged 5.9 points in 35 games this season.

Rudy Gobert Says Taste Has Returned, But 'Smell Is Still Not 100%'

Jun 28, 2020 3:16 PM

Rudy Gobert said that he is still feeling the side effects from COVID-19.

“The taste has returned, but the smell is still not 100%. I can smell the smells, but not from afar. I spoke to specialists, who told me that it could take up to a year," said Gobert in an interview with L'Equipe.

Gobert's positive test on March 11th shut down the NBA season.

Gobert added that he still feels "weird things," though he doesn't necessarily know if they are attributable to the virus.

"I still feel weird things, but I have never been so long in my life without playing a basketball game! I don’t know if that’s the backlash of the virus. ... Today, I wouldn’t say I’m feeling more tired than before. But I had experiences, a month and a half ago, that scared me. I felt like ants in my toes and wondered what it could be. There were quite a few little things like that."

Tobias Harris: Sixers 'Haven't Met Our Expectations So Far' This Season

Jun 27, 2020 2:36 PM

Tobias Harris admitted that the Philadelphia 76ers had chemistry issues throughout this season partly due to injuries.

“I’ll just say, and I’ll keep it real, we haven’t had the best chemistry throughout the whole year. It took us a while to kind of get everyone together, we battled injuries from the start to the end," said Harris on ESPN's First Take.

Harris also added that the team has underachieved this season, though the league's resumption gives the Sixers a new chance to fulfill their potential.

The Sixers recently signed Ryan Broekhoff for 3-point shooting depth.

“We haven’t met our expectations so far this year. But we have a new opportunity in Orlando to go out and just play ball, and really scratch a new surface of what we can accomplish.”

Kevin Durant Says He 'Probably Wouldn't Have Played' In Orlando Restart Even If Healthy

Jun 26, 2020 1:11 AM

Kevin Durant said he probably wouldn't have played for the Brooklyn Nets in Orlando even if he were healthy.

"I feel, me right now, I probably wouldn't have played because the unknown going into that situation looks crazy right now, seeing so many new cases. It's just so unpredictable.

"It's easy for me to say right now because I'm injured but I probably wouldn't have went down there," said Durant on the Dawg Talk podcast.

Durant added that the three month layoff would have contributed to his decision to not play.

"Obviously, I would have talked to my teammates and consulted with my guys and actually really went over it for the last month and a half, but me, my gut would have me 'nah,' I wouldn't want to go down there, especially after three months off."
