For some teams, an extended lockout is scary from the perspective of having critical members of their roster age out of prime seasons, or in the sense of losing a portion of their rookie scale contract. In Dan Gilbert's Comic Sans nightmare of a 10-11 season, the disheartening part is that their current roster will remain static indefinitely.

The Cavaliers need everything and they need a lot of it. They rank last in both offense and defense, which is not an easy accomplishment.

Additionally, Anderson Varejao is their best trade chip and he is lost for the season after a non-contract foot injury. He is on an immensely tradable contract and would be the missing piece for teams like Oklahoma City and half the other NBA who can't find quality post defenders who can rebound like Varejao. In this climate, a healthy Varejao would yield a return of 125 cents on the dollar.

Cleveland made a lopsided trade in acquiring Ramon Sessions, which was an opening salvo for how they will need to rebuild. No player on can be considered untouchable and the primary objective is asset accumulation with roster cohesion postponed until the talent is upgraded substantially.

J.J. Hickson and Sessions are two nice pieces to build around while waiting on lottery picks in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Hickson is averaging 16.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per 36 minutes, while Sessions has been excellent with a TS% of 54.4% and assist rate of 35.5%. He would instantly be the best ISO scorer on several other teams in this league.

Desperation Meter: For all of the non-playoff teams, the Cavaliers probably have the greatest need to complete a productive transitional trade. Given the length of The Streak, the Cavaliers truly need something that can change the tenor and I hope they find it.

Antawn Jamison's contract might be tradable since it only has one more season remaining, but certainly little of real value will be given up in return.

Any trade they do execute will be about subtle positioning because the real way to get back to the playoffs will be to draft Jared Sullinger or Jonas Valanciunas this season and Austin Rivers in 2012.
