Kelly Olynyk Suffers Bruised Knee, Expected To Be Ready By FIBA World Cup

Kelly Olynyk was diagnosed with a bruised knee after leaving the game during the third quarter of Canada's exhibition game against Nigeria.

Olynyk will sit out a week, but is expected to be recovered by the FIBA World Cup.

Canada are in Group H alongside Lithuania, Senegal, and Australia.

Nick Nurse will be head coach of Canada at the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

"It’s just about done and something I’m looking forward to," said Nurse on Sunday.

The Toronto Raptors and MLSE “have been supportive of the idea, with the view that what is good for Canada Basketball is good for MLSE and the Raptors, and growing the basketball footprint across the country,” according to Michael Grange.

Leo Rautins was Canada’s head coach the last time the team qualified for the World Cup back in 2010.

Jay Triano Steps Down As Head Coach Of Canada

Jay Triano has stepped down as head coach of Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team.

“I can’t thank Jay enough for all he has done for basketball in Canada,” said Glen Grunwald, President & CEO. “As both a coach and player, Jay is a Canadian icon and has played a major role in the development of basketball within our country and we will forever be grateful for his contributions. After speaking with Jay, I’m hopeful we can find a role where he can continue to contribute to Canada Basketball in the future.”

Triano, 60, was the 10th head coach of the Senior Men’s National Team since 1954. A native of the Niagara region, Triano is one of Canada’s most recognizable and accomplished coaches, as well as being a talented player and three-time Olympian.
