What has emerged as the best battle of Jazz camp is one that involves the littlest of the lot.
Three point guards are competing for what could be two jobs but might only be one.
And, so far, Jazz decisionmakers seem to like what they see from all three, each of whom has prior NBA experience: returning reserve John Crotty, who is beginning his 10th season in the league; Rusty LaRue, the ex-Chicago Bull who played last season in Russia with rookie forward Andrei Kirilenko; and fellow free agent Randy Livingston, who has played 158 games for four teams over five seasons, despite enduring two major knee injuries before he even turned pro.
"Hopefully," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said, "they can stay in there and keep competing, play when they're called upon to be ready to play and fight it out a little bit for a chance to make the team.
"That," Sloan added, "is a position we've got to look at and try to make as best a decision as we can in that situation."
