Forward Horace Grant did not play, missing the game with lower-back spasms, though that might be interpreted as nothing more than a veteran taking a night off to rest up for the games that count in the standings.

"Hopefully we will jell a month or two into the season," said Grant, noting that the experience that he and Patrick Ewing bring to the Magic lineup will offset any medical concerns.

"If myself and Patrick don't know basketball by now we're in trouble," Grant said. "We know who the go-to guys are, Grant [Hill] and T-Mac [Tracy McGrady]."
