ALTHAM - Can you miss something you never really had? That's what the Celtics are going to find out. Veteran guard Randy Brown will have surgery that will likely shelve him for the season.

His 2001-02 resume: one game, six minutes, no points.

Brown has been bothered by a groin injury. He started the season on the injured list (after missing training camp) and then worked his way back to where he was able to go against the Nuggets Dec. 5. He said at the time that he had never felt as healthy as he did. Then he reinjured the groin the next day in practice, went back on the injured list, and hasn't played since.
