The Vancouver Grizzlies needed six seasons and 23 tries to beat the Jazz just once.
It took the Memphis Grizzlies about 2 1/2 hours.
Jason Williams scored 22 points and Stromile Swift had six of his nine in the second overtime Saturday night at the Delta Center, powering the Vancouver-turned-Memphis Grizzlies to a 97-95 victory. They improved their all-time record against Utah to 2-22.
Karl Malone had 23 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists in a grueling 53 minutes for the Jazz, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. John Stockton added 21 points and nine assists, but he failed to pull the trigger on an open 20-footer at the end of regulation that could have given Utah the win.
Instead, Stockton's pick-and-roll bounce pass to Malone was slightly off target. By the time Malone got control of the ball, he had time only to fire a wild jumper that had no chance.
"If he had it to do over, I think he would shoot the ball," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "Very seldom does John not shoot the ball in that situation. . . . If he had taken the shot, maybe it would have been a different outcome."
"I just reacted," Stockton said. "Hindsight is always 20-20, but I'm sure I'll think about that one for a while."
