Kyle Ringo of the Rocky Mountain News reports: Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Terry Stotts interviewed with Denver general manager Kiki Vandeweghe on Tuesday for the Nuggets' head coaching position.

Both are in Chicago this week for the NBA pre-draft camp, which was scheduled to begin Tuesday but was delayed by serious thunderstorms that slowed players' travel. The camp will start this morning.

Former Denver assistant coach Clyde Drexler is coaching in the camp this week. He reiterated his desire to be the next Nuggets coach on Tuesday.

Drexler said he has not spoken to Vandeweghe specifically about the position but does talk to him regularly. Drexler is not under contract with any NBA team. His deal with Denver expired at the end of the season.

Stotts is the first candidate to have a formal interview. Interim coach Mike Evans, Drexler and assistant coach John MacLeod are considered candidates for the job but won't have formal interviews because Vandeweghe believes he knows each well enough already.

Stotts said he does not expect to hear from Vandeweghe for at least several weeks.

"It's just the beginning of the process," he said. "(Vandeweghe) doesn't have a time line. His priority right now is the draft. Hopefully, we'll get a chance to talk again."

Dallas assistant coach Donn Nelson also is in Chicago for the camp, but Denver has not asked for permission from Dallas owner Mark Cuban to interview any of his coaches.

Del Harris, also a Mavericks assistant and former Los Angeles Lakers head coach, has been mentioned as a candidate as well.

New Jersey Nets assistant Eddie Jordan and University of Georgia coach Jim Harrick also are candidates. Harrick is out of the country and Jordan won't be available to be interviewed until the NBA Finals are completed.

Vandeweghe has said Denver might not hire its new coach until as late as early July.
