The Magic are desperate to rise above the "good" team they?ve been these last few seasons. They are looking to make a move that will make them "great". Jerry Brewer of the Orlando Sentinel reports that the Magic are working the phone lines trying to make a trade.

Brewer writes that the Magic will leave no stone unturned between now and the trade deadline. They "will explore every possible trade scenario. They will also rummage through the minor leagues and call NBA veterans who are not under contract. They will continue to prod their own players. Something must happen to enliven this basketball team."

One player they covet is the Wizards? Kwame Brown. They are pushing hard to make a deal with the Wizards for the second year forward.

According to team sources, the Magic see Brown as a future star who may be in a bad situation in Washington. They think that playing with the always demanding Michael Jordan could be stifling Browns? growth. Thus far the teams have not come close to a deal. Brewer says that it will take more than picks and cash to pry Brown away from Washington.

The Magic could sweeten the deal by adding Mike Miller, but his name has been mentioned in trade rumors since he arrived in Orlando. The Magic don?t want to ruin his confidence by making him the center of trade talks for another season.

If Washington won?t give up on Brown, the Magic like Etan Thomas. They also have interest in guard Antonio Daniels of Portland. The Magic see both players as cheaper alternatives.
