Tucked away in a corner of the Carver Academy on the city's East Side is the room where David Robinson plans to work for the next two years. It has a large leather chair. An art-deco desk. Pictures of Robinson's wife, Valerie, and their three sons rest on a table.

On one wall hang framed photos of Robinson and his teammates. On another are 6-year-old newspaper stories detailing how he donated $5 million to start his own school. A giant "We're Going to Miss You" card from Spurs staffers stands in a corner.

This is where David Robinson will spend at least the early part of his retirement, spearheading a fund-raising drive to ensure the Carver's long-term stability. It is a modest office, located just 21/2 miles south of his current workplace.

Robinson hasn't thought much about the drive he will make to the SBC Center tonight or how the second game of the NBA Finals could be the final game he plays in San Antonio. He hadn't thought about it at all until a reporter brought it up Thursday afternoon.
