In wire-rimmed glasses, pressed jeans and penny loafers, Pat Riley has adopted the persona of contemplative scout at this week's NBA pre-draft camp.
But between sessions Thursday, the Heat coach acknowledged the direction his team takes with the No. 5 pick in the June 26 draft could render such efforts moot.
"We're going to leverage the hell out of this pick," Riley said. "We need to be open, wide open with what we do. But we need to be right with it."
Riley said the process could be as simple as identifying the top five prospects and selecting the player that falls to his team -- the "A-B-C-D-E approach" as he calls it. But he also said a more creative tact could be in order for a team that finished 25-57.
