North Carolina freshman Caleb Wilson, ranked fourth in ESPN's top-100 NBA draft prospects for 2026, has been sidelined indefinitely after sustaining a fractured left hand during Tuesday's 75-66 road loss at Miami.
Initial X-rays taken during the game were negative, allowing Wilson to return to the floor in the second half. Follow-up imaging conducted back in Chapel Hill confirmed the fracture.
"The evaluation process is ongoing to determine the timetable for Wilson's return," the school's announcement said.
The 6-foot-10 forward is averaging 19.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.4 blocks this season. He has scored in double figures in all 24 games, a program record at North Carolina.
Wilson's absence presents a significant structural challenge for the Tar Heels. He carries a 28.5 usage rate, ranking 97th nationally, and North Carolina ranks second in ACC offensive efficiency with him on the floor.
The injury occurred days after Wilson posted 23 points in UNC's 71-68 victory over Duke on Saturday — the program's first win over the Blue Devils since the 2023-24 season.
Wilson had recorded a season-low 12 points in 26 minutes against Miami before leaving with the injury. The university said the evaluation process remains ongoing.
