Rivers Wants Posey, House And Cassell Back

Jun 27, 2008 4:47 PM

Celtics' Head Coach Doc Rivers said on Thursday night that he wants all of the team's free agents back in town next season, according to The Boston Herald.

James Posey, Sam Cassell, Eddie House, P.J. Brown, and Tony Allen will all enter free agency this summer.

"We would like to bring our whole team back," Rivers said. "Pose we love. With P.J. we just don?t know. I talked to him right after the season, and he just didn?t know. But I told him that he had to go home and think about it. I would like to have P.J. back - our goal is to bring everyone back - but he?s going to need some time."

"Sam just didn?t have long enough (to learn the system), but we want him back, too," Rivers added. "All of these are guys we have to talk to, but we do have to try and pay all of these other guys off."

"I?d be happy with trying to bring them all back. The problem will be trying to do it," he concluded.

Rivers' Gatorade-Stained Shirt Nets Charity $55K

Jun 25, 2008 12:36 AM

The shirt worn by Boston Coach Doc Rivers has fetched $55,000 in an auction, the Associated Press is reporting.

Rivers was drenched in Gatorade by Paul Pierce when the title was all but secure, staining the shirt.

An anonymous bidder bought the shirt, autographed by Rivers and Pierce, and the accompanying Gatorade bucket at a charity auction on sports radio WEEI-AM's Web site. The proceeds will benefit the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation.

The foundation said Tuesday the high bid of $35,000 came from an anonymous bidder. Gatorade and a second anonymous donor each pledged $10,000 to bring the total to $55,000.

Cassell Isn't Ready To Retire Yet

Jun 23, 2008 5:02 PM

After winning the NBA title with the Celtics, guard Sam Cassell isn't ready to call it a career just yet, according to The Baltimore Sun.

"I'm playing next year, playing my 16th year," Cassell said without hesitation, Saturday evening.

"After winning a championship, it's just so hard to walk away from that," Cassell said, describing his third title. "Certain guys did it, but as I tell the guys, every great movie has a sequel. And since we consider ourselves a great team, we've got to go and repeat."

Allen: End 'The Big Three' Label

Jun 19, 2008 5:24 PM

Celtics' guard Ray Allen would like for people to stop referring to the trio of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and himself as 'The Big Three', according to The Boston Herald.

"Any time there was that label, whether it was on TV, in a newspaper or we saw it traveling to another city, we just did our best to downplay it," Allen said. "That?s because this is the Big 15. We have 15 guys on this team that have contributed all year."

"It?s not going to be the three of us that are ultimately going to win the championship," he continued. "It took all 15 players. Scot Pollard contributed before he went down, and Brian Scalabrine was big, stepping up when we needed him. The things guys like that did for us as a team allowed us to shape this team."
