Rivers Wants Jeff Green To Be A Power 3, Uptempo 4

Sep 30, 2012 12:08 PM

Doc Rivers is hoping to maximize the skills and abilities of Jeff Green this season.

"When he’s at the 3, I want him to be a power player, I want him to post more," Rivers explained. "That’s one of the things I thought I let him down when he was with us the first time, I didn’t think we posted him enough. I thought in the Miami series, if you remember, he had a little stretch in the post.

"I don’t have a big body of work to go with on Jeff. When he’s at the 4, I want him to be the fastest player in the gym. I want him to outrun [his defender and] one of the things we have been working on the last three weeks, is throwing the ball ahead to him on the break at the 4, and tell him to attack the basket. There’s a 4 guarding you that probably doesn’t want to guard you. We want him to be uptempo 4, power 3."

Green has spent the majority of his four-year career at small forward.

Dooling Explains Retirement Decision, Abuse Suffered As Child

Sep 27, 2012 7:07 PM

Keyon Dooling surprisingly retired last week and had recently a candid conversation with CSNNE's Jessica Camerato.

“The average career is 4 1/2 years and I tripled that, almost,” Dooling said. “The grind of the NBA just has taken its toll on me, on my body. More so than that, my family . . . I’ve missed birthdays, school conferences, dropping my kids off, school plays, school dances. I’ve missed just being daddy so much.

"I have enough. I have all the resources I need, I’m a blessed man. I’m not limping away; I was able to walk away.”

Dooling realized he wanted to retire after re-signing with the Celtics in July.

“I was talking about it with my wife and with my pastors and all the people that are in my life, and nobody wanted me to retire. Nobody wanted me to retire,” he said.

Dooling said that memories and years of repressed emotions came to him at this time.

"I actually had such a meltdown that I had to get professional help and I ended up in the hospital," said Dooling.

"It just all came to a head. To be honest with you, I blocked a lot of things out of my life. I’m a man who’s been abused, sexually, emotionally, mentally. I’ve been abused in my life, and there’s so many guys around the NBA who have been abused and I know it because I’ve been their therapist. I didn’t even have the courage because I blocked it out so much that I couldn’t even share that.

“It took literally a meltdown for everybody to see how serious I was about not playing ball anymore."

Dooling had been abused by both strangers and people he knew as a child.

Celtics Unlikely To Add Veteran Guard

Sep 26, 2012 2:28 PM

The Boston Celtics are not looking to add another veteran guard to the roster despite the surprising departure of Keyon Dooling.

"We probably won’t bring anyone else in," Danny Ainge said. "We like our young guys. We like Kris Joseph and Dionte Christmas and Jamar Smith and they’ll be competing for that last spot."

All three players are on non-guaranteed deals.

Mike Taylor Named Head Coach Of Maine Red Claws

Sep 21, 2012 11:14 PM

The Boston Celtics have agreed to name Mike Taylor the Head Coach of the Maine Red Claws.

Taylor joins the Red Claws after previously working as the top assistant coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League. As an assistant with the Vipers, Taylor was responsible for developing game plans, scouting, practice plans and player development. Taylor also has international experience as an assistant coach for the Czech Republic National Team during the summers of 2010, 2011 and 2012. Taylor also was the head coach for Ratiopharm Ulm in Germany from 2003-11 when he took the team from the 2nd Bundesliga and helped guide them to promotion to the Bundesliga and into the Bundesliga playoffs. In his 10 seasons in Europe between teams in Germany and England, Taylor amassed a record of 188-115.

“Mike impressed us with not only his coaching experience, but his enthusiasm and ability to develop young players,” said Boston Celtics Director of Player Personnel Austin Ainge. “He brings a blend of international and NBA D-League experience that will benefit the Celtics’ players assigned to Maine and the entire Red Claws’ roster.”

Keyon Dooling Retires, Waived By Celtics

Sep 20, 2012 5:14 PM

The Boston Celtics have waived Keyon Dooling.

“Keyon has decided that he has given the NBA twelve good years and that it’s time to pursue other interests and spend more time with his family,” said Dooling’s representative Kenge Stevenson. “He will never forget his time in Boston with the Celtics.”

“We’ll miss Keyon’s spirit and energy, both on and off the court,” said Danny Ainge. “The whole Celtics family wishes him well as he enters the next phase of his life.”

Rivers Not Concerned About Lakers, Focused Solely On Heat

Sep 16, 2012 9:04 PM

Doc Rivers isn’t concerned about the Lakers and their recent acquisitions of Steve Nash and Dwight Howard.

“Honestly, I don't care about the Lakers,” Rivers said. “My honest thought as a coach right now…I have my eye squarely on Miami. I come up to my players during the year -- they're in the facility now -- I bring up Miami every single day to them. I want them to hate them. I want them to beat them. That's got to be our focus.

“I think the Lakers are better,” Rivers continued. “I’m actually not one that thinks they’re way better. The guy they traded, (Andrew) Bynum, we struggled to guard him. Dwight is a great player, but we’ve guarded him pretty well.

“Offensively, the Nash part is different. I look at them and wonder how that’s going to work. I hear they’re going to run the Princeton offense, which I want to see the ball move, I want to see Kobe (Bryant) keep moving the ball.

“But it’ll be interesting. They’re really good.”

Rivers discussed specific points of emphasis for the coming season, and once again his thoughts drifted back to the Heat.

“We have to get to the foul line because when you get to the foul line -- that's one of the big things now in our league -- if you can get to the foul line, you can become a dominant defensive team because you get to set your defense every single time,” Rivers said. “If you keep missing shots against Miami, you're going to let them run back and forth. I told our guys, ‘I'm smart enough to know that if we get in a track meet with Miami, they're probably going to win, but if we get into a thinking meet, we will win that game.’

“When we play them, that’s how we have to turn the game. We want them to think. We want them to play under thought, not with their instincts.”
