Lakers, Bulls, Rockets, Celtics, Thunder Lead NBA In 14-15 Profits

Jun 30, 2014 12:47 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers are projected to make $100.1 million in profit for the 13-14 NBA season, comfortably the best in the NBA.

The Chicago Bulls are second at $61 million, followed by the Houston Rockets ($40.7 million), Boston Celtics ($33.1 million) and Oklahoma City Thunder ($29 million).

The Lakers have a huge profit despite contributing a league-high $49 million to revenue-sharing.

The New York Knicks are expected to take a net loss of $3.5 million due to $27 million in revenue-sharing contribution and paying a large luxury tax bill.

The San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in net profits.

The Brooklyn Nets will post a loss of $144 million for the season.

Smart Feels He Fits Alongside Rondo, Ready To Learn From Him

Jun 27, 2014 12:23 AM

Marcus Smart had a feeling the Boston Celtics were leaning towards taking him with the sixth pick if he was still available.

“Actually, I did,” Smart admitted when asked if he felt the Celtics liked him. “I worked out for Boston twice. So I’ve talked with Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens a lot. They told me they were very interested in me, and if I was still on the board, there’s a chance they might pick me.”

The Celtics already have a point guard in Rajon Rondo, but Smart feels he can play alongside Rondo and also learn from him.

“Rondo is a wonderful point guard, a wonderful player. He reminds me a little bit of me. He plays defense. He’s long, his wing span, and he has big hands,” Smart said. "Just being able to learn from a guy who’s been in the league and been in my seat and my situation. It’s an amazing feeling and a great opportunity.”

Stevens and his coaching staff have decisions to make, especially with Avery Bradley in the mix as well, but Smart isn’t bothered by the fact that he may no step into a starting role.

“No, not at all,” Smart said. “I understand that you got to come in, you’ve got to earn your spot and earn your keep. That’s who I am. I like to earn things, and I work hard to get where I’m at. That’s what I’m going to continue doing."

76ers, Celtics, Lakers Most Likely To Draft Joel Embiid

Jun 26, 2014 12:28 PM

With concerns about his health, Joel Embiid is expected to fall out of the top two slots of the NBA Draft.

The Philadelphia 76ers at No. 3, Boston Celtics at No. 6 and Los Angeles Lakers at No. 7 are his three most probable destinations.

The Orlando Magic and Utah Jazz are unlikely to draft Embiid at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.

Embiid's agent has also been reluctant to share his medical information with particular teams.

Ron Adams Leaves Celtics For Warriors

Jun 22, 2014 9:56 PM

The Golden State Warriors have hired Ron Adams as assistant coach.

Adams had two seasons remains on his contract with the Boston Celtics.

“I have nothing but great things to say about the Celtics organization, Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens,” Adams said.

The move will be something of a homecoming for Adams, a California native who attended Fresno Pacific University.

Celtics Could Trade Rondo, Green If They Fail To Acquire Love

Jun 20, 2014 12:15 AM

If they are unable to acquire Kevin Love, Boston Celtics are reportedly planning a longer and more methodical rebuilding process that likely would see Rajon Rondo get traded.

The Celtics have a taker for Jeff Green if they decide to move him, according to a source.

The Celtics are not giving up in their discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves but have thus far been rebuffed in talks. Boston has offered the Nos. 6 and 17 picks in this year’s draft, Kelly Olynyk and one of their own future No. 1 picks for Love, according to a source.

Love has reportedly told the Timberwolves' front office that he will opt out of his contract and leave next offseason if he is not traded beforehand.

Celtics May Have Best Offer On Table To Wolves For Kevin Love

Jun 17, 2014 12:37 PM

The Boston Celtics continue to pursue a trade for Kevin Love, offering the No. 6 and No. 17 picks in this year's draft, along with future No. 1's and young players such as Jared Sullinger or Kelly Olynyk.

Flip Saunders does not want to trade away Love, but he is beginning to realize that he would lose him for nothing next summer and this offer from the Celtics may be the best one he receives from any team.

The Wolves would own picks No. 6, 13 and 17, which could allow them to remake the core of the roster.

Sources: Timberwolves Not Enamored With Celtics' Potential Offer For Kevin Love

Jun 5, 2014 1:05 AM

By visiting Boston last weekend, Kevin Love opened speculation that he would not only welcome a trade to the Celtics but also be open to signing a long-term contract with the team.

Love is willing to consider the scenario of a trade to the Celtics followed by an extension, according to sources.

However, the Minnesota Timberwolves are less than enamored with what the Celtics can offer them in a potential trade for Love. The Celtics could offer the No. 6 draft pick, the future selections from the Brooklyn Nets, the No. 17 pick and a combination of role players such as Jeff Green and Jared Sullinger.

The Timberwolves reportedly believe they have already fielded better trade offers, including from the Chicago Bulls.

Glen Taylor also has pause in regard to another major trade with the Celtics. Taylor gave the OK for Kevin McHale to deal Kevin Garnett to Boston in 2007.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, owners of the No. 1 overall pick, have interest in Love, but the feeling is not mutual, according to sources.

Celtics, Lakers, Kings, Hornets, Wolves, Suns Open To Trading Lottery Pick

Jun 3, 2014 6:57 PM

The idea of a lottery pick in this year's draft being available in trade talks is a surprising development, but several teams appear amenable to a deal.

"I thought getting a lottery pick via trade would be virtually impossible this year," one NBA GM said. "It's not. There are a lot of teams in the lottery right now that would prefer a proven player. A lot of owners have lost their patience with the rebuilding process."

The Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns are all open to offers for their lottery picks, according to sources.

The Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers and Toronto Raptors are expected to be especially busy looking to move up or to acquire a second pick.

Rajon Rondo Maintains Desire To Retire With Celtics

Jun 2, 2014 6:02 PM

Rajon Rondo spoke to Kevin Love briefly on Sunday during the Boston Red Sox game, but said he did not pitch the idea of joining the Celtics to the Minnesota Timberwolves' star forward.

“I talked to Kevin for about 39 seconds,” Rondo said Monday. “It was all over the web? Well, we do work together. We played against each other. We compete, so when I saw Kevin, I spoke, wished him good luck on his time here in Boston.

“He spent a couple of days here in Boston and I told him I spent a couple of months here in Boston.

“I didn’t pitch anything. I just told him to enjoy his time here. When I was at the game, some people came up to me and told me Kevin was sitting in some really nice seats. I didn’t know I would see him. I saw him as I was exiting the game.”

Still, Rondo believes Love would greatly improve the Celtics and is confident in Danny Ainge's ability to enhance the roster.

“I think we’d be a lot better if we had a guy like Kevin,” Rondo said. “He’s a shooting [power forward]. He’s going to help us out on the glass obviously. But this is all speculation. Nothing’s happened. We talk about Kevin all day or we could insert Carmelo [Anthony’s] name but nothing’s happened. We’ve got a couple of days left before the [June 26] draft, things may shake up before that time.”

Rondo could discuss a contract extension with the Celtics in the offseason and maintained his desire to retire with the team.

“I don’t like change, really,” he said. “I’m pretty comfortable. I have a beautiful home here. I love it. I have great neighbors. I don’t want to leave, but it’s part of the process that I’ll talk about once the season is over. As of now, I’m a Celtic.”
