Kyrie Irving On Leadership Growth: 'It's Not On Me To Lead The Group By Myself'

Feb 26, 2021 1:32 AM

Kyrie Irving discussed his growth as a leader on the Brooklyn Nets this season, adding that he had learned from his previous experiences with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics.

"You gotta be able to galvanize the group, even when it's low and even when it's high. It's the balance of leadership. There isn't one leader. And I've had to accept that too, it's not on me to lead the group by myself, and be the hero that everybody wants," said Irving on Thursday.

The Nets currently have an eight-game win streak, with Irving averaging 27.4 points on the season.

Irving added that he now takes accountability for past failures of leadership.

"I'm grateful to be in this position to be able to set a better example now than I did then. And I take accountability for not necessarily stepping up to the plate or stepping up the responsibility for my own actions. I had a lot to do with success and failures of the teams I was on. I take my role very serious in terms of that, and I've been able to learn lessons from that to give to other. That's been the most beautiful part, is just to learn."

Kevin Durant Expected To Return From Hamstring Injury Before All-Star Break

Feb 23, 2021 9:39 PM

The Brooklyn Nets expect Kevin Durant to return from his strained left hamstring before the All-Star break. Durant has missed five straight games.

“Yeah, I do,” said Steve Nash when asked if he expects Durant to play before the All-Star break. “But again, we’re just trying to monitor and be cautious. We definitely have kind of slowed things down in that respect — not putting any pressure on him, not trying to rush him back in any capacity and just make sure that we give him the right amount of time to be more than healed, to be strong and conditioned to come back to the team.

“So we’re monitoring it. We’re not in a rush. But I don’t think he’ll be out until the All-Star break.”

Kevin Durant To Miss Fourth Consecutive Game, Steve Nash Says Nets Will Be 'Cautious'

Feb 20, 2021 3:53 PM

Kevin Durant will miss his fourth straight game on Sunday against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Durant has been out due to a hamstring strain.

Steve Nash said that he doesn't believe it is a long-term injury, but that the team will be cautious.

"Like I keep saying, I don't think this is a long-term thing. But there is elements of maybe it being, taking a few more days than we thought or just being cautious. I think right now both are necessary. I don't think he's ready, I think he needs more time, but we're also definitely going to be cautious," said Nash.

Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden have only played seven games together.
