Mark Cuban: 'I Have No Reason To Believe There Won't Be A Champion Crowned' This Season

Jun 21, 2020 6:18 PM

Mark Cuban said he believes that the NBA's bubble environment will be safe for players, though he is keeping an eye on rising COVID-19 rates in Florida.

"I don’t have specific concerns. I think the NBA and Disney are working with our doctors and scientists to do everything possible to keep (participants) safe. In fact, given the rise in cases in states, I have every reason to believe the setup we have in Orlando will be safer for our players and travel parties than staying in their respective cities," Cuban told the New York Post.

Cuban added that "he has no reason to believe there won’t be a champion crowned" for this NBA season.

Cuban also said that the league would experiment with various ways to create atmosphere in the empty setting.

"There will be a lot of technology we will be experimenting with to try to introduce noise and make the event more entertaining for players and TV viewers. We have been having a lot of fun with apps that allow fans to push noise they make at home into the arena. So not only will there be competition on the court, there will be competition from fans to contribute energy as well!"

Mark Cuban Willing To Kneel With Players During National Anthem

Jun 19, 2020 3:12 PM

Mark Cuban revealed he hopes to join his players in taking a knee during the national anthem if that's what they decide to do.

"If they were taking a knee and they were being respectful, I'd be proud of them. Hopefully I'd join them," Cuban said.

NBA rules state that players and coaches must stand for the national anthem, but Cuban said he hopes the league can adapt and "allow players to do what's in their heart."

"Whether it's holding their arm up in the air, whether it's taking a knee, whatever it is, I don't think this is an issue of respect or disrespect to the flag or to the anthem or to our country," Cuban said. "I think this is more a reflection of our players' commitment to this country and the fact that it's so important to them that they're willing to say what's in their heart and do what they think is right.

"I'll defer to [commissioner] Adam [Silver] on any final judgments and [players' union executive director] Michele Roberts. But the reality is, my hope is we'll let the players do exactly what they think is the right thing to do."

Cuban had a different take in 2017.

"This is America, and I'm proud of people who speak out civilly. That's who we are as a country," Cuban said at the time. "I'll be standing there with my hand over my heart. I think the players will be [standing]. I expect them to be."

Cuban was asked what changed his perspective.

"Because I think we've learned a lot since 2017," he told OTL. "I think we've evolved as a country. And this is really a unique point in time where we can grow as a society, we can grow as a country and become far more inclusive and become far more aware of the challenges that minority communities go through.

"So I'll stand in unison with our players, whatever they choose to do. But again, when our players in the NBA do what's in their heart, when they do what they feel represents who they are and look to move this country forward when it comes to race relationships, I think that's a beautiful thing and I'll be proud of them."

Luka Doncic's Trainer: Doncic 'Is Not In The Best Shape' But Will Be Ready By End Of July

Jun 11, 2020 1:38 AM

Luka Doncic's trainer said that Doncic is currently not in "the best shape," but will be ready to play if and when the season starts in late July.

“Most players struggled to stay in shape. Doncic is no exception. ... he is not in the best shape, which is normal. NBA games will not be played before the end of July, so there is enough time to help him recover and get ready. However, he undoubtedly would be ready to play right now," said Jure Drasklar.

Draskler said that he has been working with Doncic for the past three weeks, and that Doncic was working out alone during the lockdown.

Draskler added that he has also focused on improving Doncic's diet.

“We have taken full control of Luka’s food. We have a whole plan, our own cook who prepares meals based on my instructions. Doncic practically does not eat anything except what we cook for him.”
