Bob Kravits of the Indianapolis Star writes that the Pacers are looking to move up in the draft. Currently Indiana does not have a first round pick, but they would like to move up into the top 15 or 20. How will they be able to do that? With Austin Croshere. Croshere is the one who makes the most sense. Simply apply the laws of deduction.
The Pacers are not going to move their young guns, notably Jonathan Bender, Al Harrington or the Bill Walton Trio (Primoz Brezec, Bruno Sundov, Jeff Foster).
They're not going to deal Jalen Rose, who is still too valuable despite his perplexing lapses.
They're not going to move Reggie Miller, not unless they want Conseco Fieldhouse to go down in a heap next to Market Square Arena.
They probably wouldn't move Travis Best, not when they're already looking for a point guard.
That leaves Croshere.
Any deal involving Austin will likely have to wait until August 1st when his Base Year Compensation status changes, making him easier to trade.
Mark Monteith of the Indianapolis Star reports that Pacers President Donnie Walsh is interested in Chris Webber. Just like every team in the league. But he hasn't contacted the Kings about a trade. NBA teams are not permitted to discuss trades until July 1, and a violation of that rule would bring a major penalty from the league. Walsh said team presidents and general managers go out of their way to avoid conversations when they gather at pre-draft camps so they don't arouse suspicion. "There has been no discussion between the franchises," Walsh said.
