Shawn Marion Agrees To Sign With Cavs

Aug 17, 2014 11:27 AM

Shawn Marion has committed to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Marion also received interest from the Los Angeles Clippers, Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat.

The Cavaliers could only offer Marion a veteran's minimum deal, but the chance to play alongside LeBron James and compete for a title clinched his decision.

Marion met with Larry Bird earlier this week and could offer more money, but the Pacers would only spend as much on him using their Paul George injury exception as would be allowed while staying under the tax.

Paul George Holding Out Hope For Quick Return

Aug 15, 2014 2:53 PM

Paul George spoke to the media at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Friday afternoon for the first time since breaking his right leg in two places while playing for Team USA two weeks ago.

All indications have been that he will miss the 2014-15 season, but the All-Star is holding out hope that he'll heal quickly.

"I don't mind taking a year off to get better for the next season," said George, who was supported by his parents, Frank Vogel, Roy Hibbert and George Hill at the press conference. When asked again about the coming season, George admitted that he's "holding out a little hope."

George stated several times that he and Indiana's training staff are trying to avoid a timetable for his return. He expects to begin rehabilitating his knee as soon as next week, but is currently limited to laying around his house.

There is a rod down George's right leg held together with pins through his knee and ankle.

George thanked countless people for their support in the wake of the injury and was very clear in his support of USA Basketball.

"It just happen, freak accidents happen," he said, adding that he still hopes to be a part of Team USA two years from now at the Olympics in Brazil.

Derrick Rose Plans To Reach Out To Paul George During Season

Aug 15, 2014 12:50 AM

Derrick Rose discussed his wishes to Paul George on Thursday, after the Indiana Pacers' forward suffered a fracture in his leg in Team USA's first exhibition game.

Rose plans to reach out to George during the NBA regular season.

“You wish that on no one,” Rose said. “The only thing we can do is pray for him. During the season, when everything is still going, I'm going to try to hit him up as much as possible and just let him know I'm thinking about him.”

Rose is confident about his own status heading into Day 2 of Team USA's camp in Chicago.

"I have no fears, I have faith,” Rose said. “I know that I'm going to be fine. I know that I busted my ass the entire two summers — you can say two seasons — to get back to where I am right now. Just try to keep it moving, stay positive every day, do everything consistent like I've been doing.

“I think everything will go my way.”

Paul George To Change Uniform To No. 13

Aug 11, 2014 5:33 PM

Before the deadline in the first week of March, Paul George applied for and was granted the right to switch from No. 24 to No. 13.

Per league rules for a player who changes jersey numbers on the same team, George will have to buy up all remaining No. 24s from the marketplace.

"That's got a ring to it, PG-13," George said on Jimmy Kimmel in January.

Over the past month, George has tweeted trece, which means 13 in Spanish, seven times.

Shawn Marion Receiving Strong Push From Pacers As He Schedules More Meetings

Aug 5, 2014 5:38 PM

Shawn Marion, the best unrestricted free agent on the market, has received inquries from the Indiana Pacers and a strong push on a potential deal with the franchise, a league source told RealGM.

Marion spent a half-day in Cleveland to meet with the Cavaliers on Monday, and he remains intrigued about the opportunity to join LeBron James and possibly Kevin Love – even on a veteran-minimum contract.

Marion has since left Cleveland and is scheduling further meetings with NBA teams, a source said.

The Pacers had reached out to Marion early in free agency, before signing C.J. Miles and Rodney Stuckey. In the wake of Paul George’s injury, Indiana has turned its attention to replenishing the wing position and several veteran scorers remain available, including Jordan Hamilton and Jordan Crawford.

For five seasons, Marion stabilized the Dallas Mavericks with a high-energy, durable and productive starting small forward – signified in the 2011 championship. The 36-year-old averaged 10.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals in 76 games last season.
