Clippers, Heat Interested In Andrew Bynum If Waived

Dec 29, 2013 12:05 AM

The Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat would have interest in signing Andrew Bynum if he is released by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers have suspended Bynum indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. The Cavaliers are searching for a trade of Bynum before Jan. 7 when the remaining $6.2 million of his $12.2 million contract becomes guaranteed.

Bynum has dealt with chronic knee problems.

NBA Admits Blake Griffin Shouldn't Have Been Ejected From Clippers-Warriors

Dec 26, 2013 4:41 PM

The NBA announced on Thursday afternoon that Blake Griffin was wrongly ejected from the Christmas Day game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors.

Griffin received a second technical foul for his altercation with Andrew Bogut with 10:43 left in the fourth quarter of the Warriors' 105-103 win.

"After a league review of the Clippers-Warriors game, we have come to the conclusion that Blake Griffin should not have been ejected from the game," Rod Thorn said in a statement. "A common foul should have been called on Griffin for initially attempting to dislodge the Warriors' Andrew Bogut and a technical foul should have been assessed to Bogut for grabbing Griffin by the shirt and wrestling with him."

Chris Paul Welcomes Challenge From Younger Point Guards

Dec 26, 2013 12:39 PM

Chris Paul is widely considered the best point guard in the world and welcomes the rising challenge from his younger contemporaries such as Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard.

"You thrive for it," Paul said.

Paul is still only 28 but is considered an elder statesman.

"You just got to be ready because you know they are coming for you," Paul said. "When I was younger, I used to watch film of J. (Jason) Kidd, Steve Nash and you look up to guys like that. But at the same time, there's a point where you have to realize you have to become your own person, where you could care less what they have done.

"Stephen has come to my camp, but he's his own man. Ain't none of that out there on the court being in awe. Everybody feels like they are the best, as they should."

Call From Tyronn Lue Led To Clippers Signing Stephen Jackson

Dec 11, 2013 11:07 PM

Stephen Jackson wasted little time reporting to the Los Angeles Clippers. Jackson, who signed with the club on Tuesday, was active and played against the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden on Wednesday night.

The Clippers found themselves in need of depth in the wake of injuries to Matt Barnes, J.J. Redick, Maalik Wayns and most recently Reggie Bullock. Jackson logged 12 minutes in the Clippers' 96-88 win over Boston, going 0-for-3 in his first game since April. The San Antonio Spurs waived Jackson on April 12, just days before the postseason began.

"I felt pretty good. I was winded,” Jackson said after the game. "My legs were tired as soon as I got in the game, but it felt good to get back out there. Getting a win in the first one is definitely sweet.”

Tyronn Lue, assistant coach for the Clippers, recruited Jackson by reaching out to the 35-year-old last month.

“Ty Lue called me like three weeks ago and asked what was going on,” Jackson explained. "He knew I had been working out. He told me they were interested and a few weeks later Doc [Rivers] called me. It happened just like that.”

Jackson went six months between NBA contracts, but kept himself prepared in the event the right situation presented itself.

"I wasn’t just sitting at home, watching television and eating popcorn. I was working out, keeping the faith that something good would happen,” said Jackson, who expects to struggle with his shot as he works back into game shape.

"I’ve been doing this a long time. I’ve just got to get in shape and on the same page with these guys. Being out there felt great, man. Being able to play basketball with a great group of guys, I’m just happy to be back out there.”

The Clippers don’t need Jackson to provide much of an offensive punch given the scoring ability they have even on a depleted roster. They also won’t require the former NBA champion to immediately lead in the locker room. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin seem to be entrenched in those roles.

"[Defense] is my lane on this team,” Jackson said. "My role is to go out there and stop guys. All great teams have guys that take those types of roles on. That will be my role on this team."

Rivers: Celtics Would Have Won Two Or Three Titles If Garnett Stayed Healthy

Dec 11, 2013 11:17 AM

Doc Rivers and the Boston Celtics won the 2008 title together and very nearly won again in 2010.

The Celtics were unable to fully defend their championship in 2009 due to an injury to Kevin Garnett. Garnett remained an effective player, but clearly limited after his initial season with the Celtics.

"I swear if Kevin would've been healthy, we would've won two or three in a row," said Rivers on Wednesday ahead of his return to Boston.

"I wish it could have ended better," said Rivers.

Stephen Jackson Signs Agreement With Clippers

Dec 9, 2013 5:04 PM

Free agent forward Stephen Jackson has signed his contract agreement with the Los Angeles Clippers, a league source told RealGM.

Jackson had been working on his deal with the Clippers, and the two sides reached completion on Monday afternoon. Jackson, 35, was waived by the San Antonio Spurs late last season – a tumultuous split that left the 13-year NBA veteran searching the market in free agency.

Jackson is expected to sort out his new situation – including taking a physical exam – within the next couple days, a source said.

Jackson has worked out vigorously since his release from the Spurs, and he hired agent Herb Rudoy to gauge interest around the league.

The Clippers have searched for wing depth with injuries to J.J. Redick, Matt Barnes and Reggie Bullock. Barnes and Jackson played together with the Golden State Warriors and remain close.

An NBA champion with the Spurs in 2003, Jackson has averaged 15.3 points, nearly four rebounds and 3.1 assists over his career.

Clippers Interested In Stephen Jackson

Dec 9, 2013 12:16 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers have interest in Stephen Jackson.

The Clippers have a growing need for a wing and Jackson continues to look for an NBA team following his release last April from the San Antonio Spurs.

“If you guys have any names, call me and let me know,” Doc Rivers told reporters. “I’ll be on the phone tonight with [Clippers executives] Gary [Sacks] and Gerald [Madkins] and Dave Wohl and I’m praying they know somebody. We’ll see. You never know.”

J.J. Redick is out at least six weeks with a broken hand, while Matt Barnes and Reggie Bullock are also out.

The Clippers are also interested in eventually signing Lamar Odom.

Rivers Upset At Clippers' 'Pouting'

Dec 8, 2013 10:57 AM

Doc Rivers expressed frustration with the Los Angeles Clippers about the state of their maturity following an 88-82 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"We did a lot of pouting in the game," Rivers said Saturday. "You can't play that way. You have to keep playing. I always call them emotional hijacks, and we had a lot of that going on. That happens, but you have to be able to pull yourself out of it individually or as a group, and I don't think we did a good job of that."

Rivers has been critical of the Clippers' body language dating back to training camp.

"When we become a good team, if we become a good team, it will be because we miss 30 shots in a row and you wouldn't know it," Rivers said. "We just keep playing. You get some bad calls on you and you just keep playing. Right now we're not at that point maturity-wise. When we go bad, we start thinking bad. That's an area we have to grow in. …You can preach it but it's a habit and you have to get over it. There's been times where we've fought it and did good job, and this is one of those nights where we didn't."
