Steve Nash will miss at least two more games with a non-displaced fracture in his left leg.

Nash has already missed 13 games for the Los Angeles Lakers.

D'Antoni Regrets Leaving Suns For Knicks

Nov 28, 2012 2:36 PM

Mike D'Antoni regrets not remaining with the Phoenix Suns when he decided to become the head coach of the New York Knicks.

"I shouldn't have gone to New York," said D'Antoni.

"I should have stuck in there and battled. You don't get to coach somebody like him [Nash] too many times. It's pretty sacred and you need to take care of it. I didn't."

The parting with the Suns had always been reported as mutual.

"No. It was me," D'Antoni admits now. "I initiated it and I probably shouldn't have."

The Knicks' had a plan to rebuild while pursuing cap space.

"We had a three-year plan and it was good," D'Antoni says. "There were good aspects of it. But it was better the other way [in Phoenix]."

D'Antoni became head coach of the Lakers after the team fired Mike Brown.

Shaw: Lakers' Treatment Of Jackson 'Mind-Boggling'

Nov 27, 2012 11:24 AM

Brian Shaw was surprised by the Los Angeles Lakers' decision not to hire Phil Jackson to replace Mike Brown as head coach.

"Under the circumstances, Phil Jackson, who's been there and done that and put a lot of money in everybody's pockets around here, the way it was done . . . it's mind-boggling," Shaw said Monday in an interview with The Times. "I was joking with him, at least you got a phone call, even though it was midnight.

"In 11 years he was coach here, he took the team to the Finals seven times and won five. I don't know if any of the other 29 teams would have done him the way he was done [by the Lakers] after he had done so much for the organization and the city."

Lakers Aren't Seeking Trade Of Pau Gasol

Nov 27, 2012 10:31 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers are not actively seeking a trade of Pau Gasol, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

Gasol trade chatter had increased in recent days in the media, coinciding with his struggles on the floor and significant contract that runs through the 13-14 NBA season.

Gasol has played in four different offensive systems over the past three seasons and clearly prefers the Triangle.

"It put me in a natural position, which was post. I could score and I could pass," he said. "It was a perfect fit for me when I got here and Andrew (Bynum) was out. I had a lot of minutes and it was a need to cover.

"Now it's a different personnel, different need, different look, different system, different positioning. As a professional, you adjust to a different position in your company and try to do your best so the company still finds you a valuable asset and the company still performs as well as it did before."

Gasol has been slow to adapt to Mike D'Antoni's system.

"We're all trying to get adjusted to the faster pace and running harder to our spots so the spacing's better, the flow is better," Gasol said.

Lakers Unlikely To Make Changes To Coaching Staff

Nov 25, 2012 8:10 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers are unlikely to make any changes to the current staff of assistant coaches, according to a source.

Each of the star players on the Lakers have their personal favorites of those currently employed.

Eddie Jordan, Steve Clifford, Bernie Bickerstaff, Chuck Person and Darvin Ham were all part of Mike Brown's staff and remain with the Lakers.

Dan D'Antoni was added to the coaching staff following the hiring of Mike D'Antoni.

Pau Gasol Bothered By Knee Tendinitis

Nov 25, 2012 11:31 AM

Pau Gasol's tendinitis in both knees has been "pretty bothersome" of late.

Gasol has been wearing bands over both knees during games to control the swelling and pain.

"It's something that has been lingering," said Gasol. "So far, I'm dealing with it."

Gasol's knees didn't bother him during the Olympics.

Kobe Expects His Scoring To Increase When Nash Returns

Nov 25, 2012 12:03 PM

Kobe Bryant is leading the NBA in scoring with 26.9 points per game.

But Bryant believes his scoring will increase when Steve Nash returns from injury. Bryant is currently averaging 5.1 assists per game.

"I've been doing this my whole career, and some nights my teammates hit more shots and that adds up to more assists for me," Bryant said. "The games we win are when the whole team is making shots. Now, if our shots aren't going in, then I have to take more of the offensive load."

Nash will be reevaluated next week.

"I'll be scoring a lot more when Nash gets back," Bryant said. "I won't have to facilitate as much, and it will allow me to do what I do best — and that's put the ball in the hole."
