Zach Randolph On The Block?

Dec 29, 2004 2:42 PM

Chad Ford is reporting the Blazers are kicking around the idea of trading Zach Randolph. Randolph's unwillingness to play team basketball has lead the franchise to question whether he can be their franchise player.

Though a trade would be very difficult to consummate at this time given Randolph's contract status. He signed a new six year deal over the summer, which makes him a "poison pill player". Basically, that means he's virtually untradable, unless a team with cap space or a large trade exception is involved.

Ford points to the Nets as a team with the financial flexibility to take on Zach's contract.

Kidd Rips Skiles As 'Backstabber'

Dec 29, 2004 6:43 AM

Jason Kidd recently referred to Bulls Coach Scott Skiles, who coached Kidd in Phoenix, as a backstabber.  With the Nets in Chicago to face the Bulls the Chicago media asked Kidd to explain his comment writes Fred Kerber of the New York Post, which Kidd did plus some more.

"He's the reason I'm in New Jersey," said Kidd who noted, "He always wanted to be me. He always thought he was better than me. That's the way it goes."

Asked if he gets up to face Skiles, Kidd said "Why get up? [Life's] too short to get up. He has no impact on how I feel about the Bulls or anything else. It's what he has done behind the scenes. Even ask his team. Ask Eddy Curry and all those guys how they feel about him."

Skiles said he always felt he had a good relationship with Kidd while they were together. Asked why Kidd is bitter toward him, Skiles replied, "We traded him. It's not brain surgery . . . I will suit up and go to battle with Jason Kidd any day of the week."

Vince Carter Hurt In Jersey Debut At Detroit

Dec 28, 2004 1:38 AM

Vince Carter debuted with the Nets scoring 23 points, but was unavailable for most of the overtime session.  The Nets ended up losing to the Pistons 100-90.

"I'm OK -- it just cramped up," he said. "I'll be fine as soon as I get some fluids into me."

The game was his first since he strained an Achilles' tendon in Toronto's 90-86 overtime loss to the Pistons on Dec. 8. He was traded to the Nets on Dec. 17.

"I guess this is twice here, but I'm sure the cramps would have happened anywhere," he said. "I played a lot of minutes in my first game back, and I guess I got dehydrated. I felt good until then, and my Achilles' is fine."

Nets Have Their Eyes Set On Dalembert

Dec 21, 2004 5:46 PM

Although their chances are slim, the New Jersey Nets are interested in landing Samuel Dalembert, the big man from Philadelphia.

League sources say the Nets have spoken with Philadelphia, however the 76ers are not looking to move Mr. Dalembert just yet.  To make matters worse for the Nets, if Philadelphia does decide to move their big man, they would likely want another big man to replace the outgoing Dalembert.  After the recent Toronto trade for Vince Carter, size is one luxury the Nets are without.

Thorn And The Nets Eye The Mailman As Scalabrine Starts At PF

Dec 19, 2004 5:23 PM

With the Nets frontcourt gutted after the Vince Carter trade, Rod Thorn reportedly has interest in Karl Malone. But it's not likely that Malone has the same affection for the Nets.

Two league sources said the Nets contacted Malone's agent, Dwight Manley. However, the Spurs are reported to have the inside track on Malone. Phone calls to Manley's office were not returned.

Brian Scalabrine will log the majority of the minutes at power forward.

"I just have to get used to playing that position, playing that role," Scalabrine said. "I have to get used to playing those kind of minutes. So it's just going out and playing every day and being consistent."
