Brook Lopez Was Almost A Bobcat

Dec 27, 2008 6:34 PM

The Bobcats nearly drafted center Brook Lopez, who ended up going to the Nets with the 10th pick, last June.

Charlotte was on the clock at No. 9, and made it clear to Lopez's representatives that he was their choice. That was confirmed by several agents who were in touch with one of Lopez's agents, who went ballistic as soon as the Bobcats picked point guard D.J. Augustin instead.

"It was a pretty big shock. I said, 'I feel like Brady Quinn,'" Lopez recalled, referring to the Cleveland Browns' quarterback who slipped in the 2007 NFL Draft. "I'm sure Brady heard about me saying that -- I'm afraid to meet him now. But I'm glad how it ended up. I feel lucky the way it turned out."

Nets Will Take Time To Decide About Krstic

Dec 23, 2008 4:29 PM

The Nets will take their time deciding whether or not to match the offer the Thunder extended to Nenad Krstic.

New Jersey has seven days from Monday to match the offer and add Krstic back to their roster after he left for Europe this past summer.

Re-signing Krstic for three years would mean committing salary through the 2010 season, which no team wants to do with a number of free agents hitting the market.

Questions Over Yi's Age Surface Again

Dec 21, 2008 7:07 AM

Before Yi Jianlian was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks, there were questions being asked about how old he really was.

According to the New York Post, a report in China that surfaced on the Internet yesterday claimed to have documentation that Yi is 24, and not 21 as he and his passport claim.

"I'm 21," Yi said. "This story started a long time ago. Some guy just wanted something to write about."

The Nets have official documents for Yi showing his birth year as 1987 which would make him 21. And even if he were 24, no big deal.

"I'm not concerned," said Nets GM Kiki Vandeweghe. "Any time you have someone who is not from this country, those issues arise. What I look at is he's a young developing player. He hasn't played a ton of basketball to this point. You can look at his body and his physical makeup and see he's obviously very talented but still maturing. Whether he's 21 or 22, he's still very young."
