P.J. Brown Officially Retires

Dec 31, 2008 2:36 PM

P.J. Brown said Wednesday he's officially retired.

"My career ended June 17," Brown said of the day the Boston Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2008 NBA title.

Brown had left a voice message to that effect nearly five months ago, on Aug. 7, but would never use the "R" word.

"I want to tell you that, I wanted to let you know that I'm officially announcing my, uh, I wanted to say I'm leaving the game," was the way Brown put it that day, stopping short of using the words 'retirement' or 'retired.' "There's been a question around here. People are asking me every day but I just wanted to let you know that today, I'm officially, uh, uh, my career ends."

Hornets' Chandler Ignores Trade Rumors

Dec 30, 2008 3:29 PM

New Orleans' center Tyson Chandler ignores all trade rumors, having learned throughout his career that you can't focus on that kind of attention.

"Honestly, at this point in my career, I don't pay attention to it," Chandler said. "I've only been involved in trade rumors once during my final year in Chicago. Once you start focusing on that stuff, you lose track on what you are trying to do. I don't even read newspapers or watch the sports channels."

Sports Illustrated listed Chandler for the Pistons' Rasheed Wallace as a possible trade.

CP3's Steal Streak Ends At 108

Dec 25, 2008 9:47 PM

Chris Paul's streak of 108 consecutive games with a steal came to an end on Thursday.

"I didn't know the streak had ended until a reporter said it to me after the game," Paul said. "Usually, I just figure that I'll have a steal. It's not something I think about. I just think about the way we got embarrassed.

"We still got to get a little tougher. That's just what it's all about right now. We've got to do something. I don't know; I guess that's the good thing is we get another game (tonight against the Houston Rockets at the New Orleans Arena) and if we play well, everybody is going to think it's cured. We're so up and down right now."

New Orleans point guard Chris Paul tied the NBA record for most consecutive games with a steal on Tuesday night against Memphis.

Hornets Thriving In Bad Economy, Looking For Arena Naming Rights

Dec 16, 2008 2:56 AM

The Hornets have thrived economically this season by experiencing a surge in season-ticket sales and sponsorships, and now they've enlisted a national management company to sell the naming rights to the New Orleans Arena.

Octagon, a firm that represents the Hornets' two All-Stars, Chris Paul and David West, will be pursuing a potential sponsor for the building in which the team plays.

"Selling naming rights is always difficult," said Octagon's Tom George, senior vice president of athlete and property marketing. "It's a big ticket, and you have to find the right people. We just had a little sales meeting where we talked about this, and I would much rather go into this proposition with a great property and a bad market than a bad property in a good market."

Posey Isn't Sure If P.J. Brown Will Return

Dec 13, 2008 3:46 PM

Hornets' forward James Posey isn't sure if former Celtics teammate P.J. Brown will return to the league or opt to call it quits.

"I have seen P.J. a couple times out at dinner," Posey said on Friday night. "One time he came to practice out at training camp. He's doing good. I don't know (if he'll play again). It depends on how he feels. I'm sure he can help teams out there to compete to win. He has that leeway if he wants to come back or not."
