No Dialogue Between Jrue Holiday, David Griffin Over Potential Trade

Dec 28, 2019 1:36 PM

Jrue Holiday and David Griffin have yet to engage in discussions over Holiday's future with the team, league sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Marc Stein reported last week that Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram were the only untouchables on the Pelicans roster, and that Holiday would be available in a deal.

Holiday reportedly cares most about being in a winning situation.

The Nuggets and the Heat are expected to be possible destinations should Holiday be traded.

Zion Williamson Focused On Refining Eating Habits During Rehab

Dec 27, 2019 3:38 PM

Zion Williamson has focused on refining his eating habits during his rehab, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.

When Williamson underwent surgery on his torn meniscus in October, the New Orleans Pelicans did not believe his weight was a reason for the injury. The Pelicans have wanted Williamson to get lean and trim prior to his return.

Williamson is also believed to still be growing.

While Williamson has progressed to one-on-one and three-on-three court work with coaches, he has not been cleared for full contact and basketball activities, which could wait until mid-January.

The Pelicans fully anticipate Williamson will still play this season.

Anthony Davis Began Considering Trade From Pelicans Last Christmas

Dec 26, 2019 10:39 AM

Anthony Davis began thinking about requesting a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans around Christmas Day in 2018. The Pelicans were not on the NBA's lineup on Christmas Day last season and the team was 15-19.

“I think it was just the wins weren’t adding up, and it seemed like we weren’t making the playoffs," Davis told Yahoo Sports. "Everyone around me and everyone who knows me knows that I want to win. And I didn’t feel like we were going to be able to do that last year. I want to be able to win. We got off to a great start. We were 4-0. Then guys got hurt and little things started to go south. But my mindset at the time was to keep trying to lead my team.”

The Pelicans continued to struggled in January and requested a trade on January 28th.

"You don’t have a lot of time in this league. It goes by very fast," he told Yahoo Sports. "So for me, it was about putting myself in position where I can win before this career is over. And hopefully win several championships and have several winning seasons. That’s what was going through my head at that time. I’m not sure what the record was, but I felt like it was time for me to at least let the organization know where my head was at.”

The Los Angeles Lakers were always his preferred destination leaving the Pelicans, but Davis thought he might have to settle for another team due to the bad blood brewing between the two franchises.

“There were several teams in mind," Davis told Yahoo Sports. "My agent [Rich Paul] was doing a good job talking to the front office and management over there. He was the one communicating back and forth with them, and I was just trying to continue being a leader over there and still playing when they allowed me to. I’m not sure what was really being talked about, but the Pelicans didn’t do anything. So I still tried to lead that team, and when I got a chance to play, I played my heart out. It’s basketball. I’m still going to be a professional, and any time I’m on the floor with four other guys, I’m going to go out there and compete.”

Zion Williamson Expected To Return To Practice Shortly After New Year's

Dec 26, 2019 9:58 AM

Zion Williamson would have already made his NBA debut if he were in charge of when he plays again after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Williamson told ESPN's Jorge Sedano that he "trusts the organization" in its decision-making.

Before Williamson makes his on-court return, the New Orleans Pelicans would like him to undergo at least two or three practices doing full work. A source told Sedano the team is targeting just after the new year for those practices.

The Pelicans have struggled this season despite expectations they could compete for a low playoff seed with a reworked roster built around Williamson.

Heat No Longer Interested In Chris Paul, More Likely To Pursue Jrue Holiday

Dec 18, 2019 10:56 AM

The Miami Heat are more likely to pursue a trade for Jrue Holiday than Chris Paul, according to sources.

The interest the Heat may have had in Paul is now extinct, according to league sources.

The New Orleans Pelicans are more likely to make a change at head coach before any significant roster moves, according to two front office sources. But Holiday has been made available in trade talks in a way he wasn't previously.

The Heat don't currently use a traditional point guard and run their offense through score-first wings like Jimmy Butler and playmaking bigs like Bam Adebayo.
