Rivers Didn't 'Earn' Ejection Against Phoenix

Jan 29, 2011 10:35 AM

Celtics coach Doc Rivers was ejected in the first half of the team's 88-71 loss to the Suns on Friday night.

Rivers was frustrated after Boston was called for eight fouls in the first quarter against Phoenix's big men.

"I'm not sure," Rivers said when asked about the ejection. "I didn't earn it. So I think you have to ask Mr. [Steve] Javie. He actually came into our huddle. We were standing there and he came up to us. I'll tell you exactly what was said. He said, 'You guys are complaining way too much.' And I said, 'Then make the right calls.' His answer back was 'I'll make a call for you.' That's how I got the tech. After I got the tech, I didn't have any choice words for him. I didn't say a word. You know what I said? 'It's about the game, it's not about one individual.' That's what I said over and over again."

With 4:07 left in the fourth quarter, Kevin Garnett followed Rivers when he was called for two technicals after he was whistled for a foul on Channing Frye following a three-point shot.

Sarver Doesn't Expect Nash Trade

Jan 28, 2011 12:51 PM

Responding to speculation, owner Robert Sarver doesn't expect the Suns to trade Steve Nash.

“At this point, Steve is still playing at a very high level and is a very important part of the franchise,” Sarver said. “I don’t see us making a trade (with) him this year. I just don’t see it.

“The two main reasons for why I’d like to see Steve stay here is he’s still the best player and most important player on the team and, in addition, we’ve got a lot history together. That means something.”

Nash Upset Over 'Lack Of Cohesion And Chemistry'

Jan 12, 2011 8:28 AM

Steve Nash spent the entire fourth quarter on the bench Tuesday night as the Suns lost 132-98 to the Nuggets.

Denver outscored Phoenix by 42 points over the second and third periods to turn the game into a rout.

"It feels like there's a little lack of cohesion and chemistry. I don't feel like we're getting that performance and effort that we're accustomed to, and that's disappointing," Nash said. "It seems like when we lose the momentum, we just go downhill fast. It's like we stop believing.

"We're all concerned and disappointed. We've got to keep fighting; that's all we can do. You can't cry about it; you've got to keep fighting."

The Suns, 15-21, have lost 12 of their last 16 games.
