Suns No Longer Considering Jay Triano For Head Coaching Job

Jay Triano is out of the running for the Phoenix Suns' head coaching position.

Triano served as interim head coach of the Suns after the dismissal of Earl Watson.

Ty Corbin has also been relieved of his duties as assistant coach.

Mike Budenholzer and David Fizdale are among the candidates the Suns have interviewed.

Suns Speak With Jason Kidd, Vinny Del Negro About Head Coaching Job

The Phoenix Suns have spoken to Jason Kidd and Vinny Del Negro about their head coaching vacancy.

Kidd has openly campaigned for the job with the Suns and is now living in the Phoenix area. Kidd was fired by the Bucks in January.

Del Negro played for the Suns in 2000-2001 and for two games in 2001-02. He was named Phoenix’s director of player personnel in 2006 and one year later was promoted to assistant general manager.

Mike Budenholzer has withdrawn his name from consideration from the Phoenix Suns' head coaching job.

Budenholzer met with the Suns over several days this week.

Both Budenholzer and the Atlanta Hawks entered the offseason with some degree of interest in a parting of ways.

The Phoenix Suns plan on interviewing David Fizdale for their head coaching vacancy on Wednesday.

The Suns have also held talks with Mike Budenholzer.

Fizdale is widely considered one of the most coveted head coaching candidates on the open market.

The Memphis Grizzlies fired Fizdale early in the 17-18 season.

While the Phoenix Suns have become increasingly focused on Mike Budenholzer, they have conducted informal conversations with a number of other candidates.

Steve Clifford, Frank Vogel and David Blatt have had a dialogue with the Suns.

Clifford and Vogel were fired by the Hornets and Magic, respectively, this offseason. Blatt returned to coaching in Europe following his dismissal by the Cavaliers in January of 2016.

The Suns are also still considering Jay Triano, who finished the season as interim head coach.

Mike Budenholzer Meets With Suns

Mike Budenholzer met with the Phoenix Suns on Monday and Tuesday as they explore the possibility of him becoming their next head coach.

Budenholzer met with Suns general manager Ryan McDonough and owner Robert Sarver over the two days.

The Atlanta Hawks granted permission for the Suns to meet with Budenholzer.

The Hawks and Budenholzer are both open to ending their partnership. The Hawks may require compensation from the Suns.

Budenholzer has two years and more than $13 million left on his contract with the Hawks.

The Suns are still considering several other candidates but have been focused on Budenholzer.

David Fizdale will visit with the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns next week for their head coaching vacancies.

The Charlotte Hornets also have interest in Fizdale.

Fizdale was an assistant with Miami from 2011-12 to 2015-16. Fizdale was head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies for just over one season before being fired.

Suns Granted Permission From Hawks To Interview Mike Budenholzer

The Phoenix Suns have been granted permission from the Atlanta Hawks to interview Mike Budenholzer for their head coaching vacancy.

Budenholzer is planning to meet with Suns officials early next week.

Budenholzer has two years and more than $14 million remaining on his deal. Budenholzer is a native of Arizona.

The Suns still are considering interim coach Jay Triano, who replaced Earl Watson three games into the regular season.

Dan Majerle Not Interested In Suns' Job

Dan Majerle rejected an opportunity to interview for the Phoenix Suns' head coaching vacancy.

"(General Manager) Ryan (McDonough) reached out and asked to meet, but I told him that I was going to stay at Grand Canyon," Majerle said. "I'm not ruling it out in the future. But there are still things I want to do here."

Majerle was an assistant with the Suns before leaving on bad terms in 2013 after he was passed over to be the Suns' interim coach for Lindsey Hunter. Majerle said the relationship with the Suns was repaired two years ago by McDonough.

Majerle is now head coach of Grand Canyon State.
