Bam Adebayo Says Team USA Snub Produced 'Bigger Chip On Shoulder'

Dec 17, 2019 8:40 PM

The decision to omit Bam Adebayo from the United States World Cup roster was surprising at the time and has grown in controversy as he's had an All-Star caliber 19-20 season.

USA Basketball officials suggested that this version of Adebayo wasn't on display during camp.

Adebayo admitted that losing out on a roster spot to Brook Lopez and Miles Plumlee left him with a “bigger chip on my shoulder.”

“Obviously no man wants to get cut, so I take it personally,” Adebayo told Marc Stein Of The New York Times. “But it’s behind me now.”

Yet Adebayo insisted that “it’s not the reason why I’ve been doing what I’m doing.”

Woj: Spurs Heading Towards Rebuild

Dec 16, 2019 11:19 AM

The San Antonio Spurs are moving into another phase of the franchise after more than two decades of continuous success.

The Spurs have decisions to make on the futures of DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge.

"This is a different day for this organization," said Adrian Wojnarowski. "They lived in a separate, parallel universe of the NBA because of the continuity they had."

While the Spurs have a number of talented younger players such as Dejounte Murray, they don't project to remain a perennial playoff team in their current iteration.

"This rebuild is coming in San Antonio," said Wojnarowski. "Whether it's this trade deadline or this summer. There's no getting around it. It's going to be a hard road for them. They're not setup to turn this around very quickly."

The Spurs also are without a timeline, at least publicly, on how long Gregg Popovich will remain as head coach.

Bill Self Could Possibly Succeed Gregg Popovich As Head Coach Of Spurs

Dec 9, 2019 5:40 PM

Gregg Popovich has given no indication to the San Antonio Spurs that he won't remain as head coach next season.

There has been speculation that Popovich could retire shortly after the 2020 Olympics with the United States.

League sources tell Sam Amick and John Hollinger of The Athletic that Bill Self is a potential replacement as head coach of the Spurs. Self is a close friend of R.C. Buford and have been so since their college days at Oklahoma States. Self and Buford worked together as assistants under Larry Brown at Kansas in the mid-1980s.

Kansas is under investigation for potential NCAA violations.

The Houston Rockets will file an official protest with the league office regarding a dunk by James Harden that was incorrectly called a missed field goal.

The Rockets went on to lose the game 135-133 in double overtime to the San Antonio Spurs.

Rockets Likely To File Official Protest Regarding Missed James Harden Dunk During Loss To Spurs

Dec 4, 2019 11:20 PM

The Houston Rockets will likely file an official protest in regards to the refs failing to count a James Harden dunk during their 135-133 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, league sources told Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

The Rockets were optimistic that the NBA would take action without a protest, though the team may now file a protest within the allotted 48-hour window following a game to force a ruling.

Sources also told ESPN that the league is conducting an investigation, though the resolution could take longer than 48 hours.

The play in question took place with 7 minutes and 50 seconds left in the game. The Rockets would have lead 103-89 had Harden's dunk counted.

League sources added that the Rockets will not be awarded a win.
