Rajon Rondo On Potential Lakers' Return: 'The Only Way We Can Go From Here Is Up'

Mar 30, 2019 3:10 PM

Rajon Rondo stated that he wanted to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason.

"Absolutely. I mean, the only way we can go from here is up. So, I don't know what the future holds as far as the summer -- if I come back, or who else comes back or if I don't come back. Those things are out of my control. But at the same time, it's a great organization. I can't say enough about the staff and the people who work here. They're really kind and helpful, so I want to continue, if I can, help this organization grow," said Rondo.

Rondo added that he was looking for something more long-term than the 1-year deal he signed with the Lakers last offseason.

"As far as long term, maybe not like a six-year deal, but you know, I'm only 33."

Bradley Beal Not Sure If He Would Sign Supermax Extension With Wizards

Mar 29, 2019 1:11 PM

Bradley Beal has emerged as a contender for one of the All-NBA selections this season.

“I feel like behind James (Harden), I’m the best shooting guard in the league,” Beal told The Athletic. “My numbers may show it, (but) we’re not winning. I think that hurts (an All-NBA case) in a lot of ways. But in terms of individual success, I feel like I’m right there.”

Beal will be eligible for a supermax contract extension if he makes one of the All-NBA teams. Beal could earn an estimated $194 million over four seasons starting in 21-22.

“You know what’s crazy? (Making All-NBA) wasn’t really a goal until people started talking about it more,” Beal said. “I think once there was a little noise behind it, it kinda pushed me to just continue to be consistent, just continue to play at this level. It wasn’t me at the beginning of the year like, ‘Oh, I wanna make the (All-NBA).’ I never even thought about it, but once people started buzzing about it like, ‘Oh, you have a great chance of doing it,’ why not? So, I just continue to play hard and play aggressive.”

If Beal does qualify and the Wizards offer him an extension, he's not yet sure if he will accept it.

“I have no idea. … I try not to (think about it),” he said. “I’m not gonna be naïve to it. I know about it. But … I haven’t even gotten that far, because I need to figure out what we’re gonna do in this offseason, where we’re going, which direction we’re going.”

Beal did recently say, however, that he would like to remain with the Wizards for his entire career.

“If I can retire in this jersey, I will,” he said. “I’m all about loyalty.”

He told Yahoo! Sports in a podcast later that day, “If I can, 100 percent, I’d die in a Wizards jersey.”

Lakers Never Made Offer To Julius Randle In Restricted Free Agecny

Mar 29, 2019 12:55 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers never made an offer to Julius Randle in restricted free agency.

Luke Walton and his coaching staff preferred the Lakers re-sign Randle.

Randle signed a two-year, $18 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. Randle was won over by how the Pelicans appeared to really want him on their team, which wasn't a feeling he received from the Lakers.

Paul George Swayed More By What Thunder Did Right Than Lakers Did Wrong

Mar 29, 2019 12:52 PM

Paul George re-signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder quickly during the 2018 offseason and never gave the Los Angeles Lakers the opportunity of a meeting.

Sources say it was always more about what the Thunder did right than what the Lakers did wrong. The Thunder traded for him without promises of a long-term commitment.

George played with Corey Brewer during the second half of the 17-18 season after Brewer was waived by the Lakers in February. Brewer divulged his experience with the Lakers to George.

George's agent, Aaron Mintz, also represented a number of players with ties to the Lakers including D'Angelo Russell and Julius Randle.

Damian Lillard Very Comfortable With Commitment To Blazers As Supermax Looms

Mar 27, 2019 8:06 AM

Damian Lillard is very comfortable with his commitment to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Lillard met with Paul Allen last year to discuss the direction of the franchise, but whatever frustrations he expressed at the time have been assuaged.

Lillard has no concerns about the uncertainty over ownership of the Blazers following the death of Allen in October.

There are also signs of Lillard being interested in an extension with the Blazers this offseason. Lillard is likely to be voted to an All-NBA team, which will make him eligible for a supermax extension. Lillard could add four years and $194 million to his deal, which would create a six-year, $250 million commitment as he has two years and $60 million remaining on his deal.

The Blazers are likely to offer Lillard the supermax extension this offseason.
