NBA Draft Reportedly Moving To Newark

Oct 27, 2010 4:35 PM

The NBA is moving its draft from New York City to Newark, New Jersey, according to a source.

The league has yet to announce that the annual draft of college players will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark in June, but commissioner David Stern is expected to make the announcement Wednesday night before the Nets' season opener against the Pistons.

The move is expected to be temporary while New York's Madison Square Garden is undergoing renovations.

West Wishes He Drafted Stoudemire With Grizzlies

Oct 20, 2010 7:27 AM

Former Grizzlies president Jerry West opened up about his time with the franchise in a recent interview with the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

West was asked if he would have done anything different during his time in Memphis and he pointed to the 2002 NBA Draft.

"The year we drafted Drew Gooden. He has been in the league a long time. But we could have had Amare Stoudemire," West said.

"He would have added some cache and star power to this team. It's not that Drew is a bad player but Stoudemire is a star. We didn't look at him the way we should have. And you know, everyone thinks the Grizzlies have done a terrible job drafting and they haven't. The Griz are ranked ninth in drafting in terms of their history."

Memphis took Gooden with the fourth overall pick, while Stoudemire was drafted by Phoenix at No. 9.

Sullinger Brings Different Game To Ohio State Than Oden

Oct 15, 2010 1:49 AM

While Jared Sullinger doesn't come to Ohio State with the kind of hype that surrounded Greg Oden, he is still a freshman prominent on the national stage.

"That's not who Jared is," Thad Matta said of the Oden comparisons. "But he's productive in a lot of other ways of getting numbers."

"Physically, he's already like a college senior," OSU assistant coach Jeff Boals said Thursday. "Jared has always had a great feel for the game. He's one of those guys that sees stuff happening before it happens."

Source: Draft Pick No Longer An Obstacle To Knicks Acquiring Carmelo

Oct 1, 2010 7:50 AM

A source with knowledge of the Knicks' strategy told Alan Hahn that the team is confident it can obtain a first-round pick to package to Denver in a deal to land Carmelo Anthony.

"That will not be a stumbling block," the source said.

On Thursday, Chris Sheridan first broke the news for ESPN that the Knicks had lined up a trade to acquire a first-round pick in the 2011 draft.

"There remains strong mutual interest between Anthony and the Knicks, according to sources close to both," writes Hahn. "The only real stumbling block is the reluctance of the Nuggets, who are well aware of Anthony's desire to join the Knicks, to work with them on a trade."
