Jeremy Tyler Signs With Pro Team In Japan

Jul 29, 2010 10:28 AM

Jeremy Tyler has signed with the Tokyo Apache of Japan's professional basketball league.

The team announced the signing Thursday on its official website. The 19-year-old Tyler will play for former NBA coach Bob Hill, who was hired by the team last month.

"We are extremely excited for Jeremy to join our team in Tokyo," the team said in a statement. "His athleticism and size will be a major presence in our frontcourt this season."

Tyler, who attended San Diego High School before leaving after his junior year, signed a one-year, $140,000 contract with Israeli team Maccabi Haifa in August 2009.

Contract Standoff Between Grizzlies, Henry Continues

Jul 25, 2010 6:49 PM

The Grizzlies still haven't signed first-round pick Xavier Henry to a rookie deal.

Henry sat out all of this month's Las Vegas Summer League.

Memphis has refused to offer Henry the maximum amount allowed, which equates to a 2010-11 salary of $2 million, without Henry agreeing to tie $300,000 of that to performance bonuses.

Henry and agent Arn Tellem think the incentive clauses are out of line and won't sign.

Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said Sunday that the issue remains unresolved, but that Henry hasn't requested that the team trade him.

Spurs Sign James Anderson

Jul 24, 2010 7:22 PM

The Spurs signed James Anderson, their first-round draft pick, to a rookie contract on Friday.

Anderson can earn about $2.825 million over the first two years of the deal, with team options for the third and fourth seasons.

San Antonio used the 20th pick to select Anderson.

"This is a player who has performed at a very high level for three years at Oklahoma State, yet at the same time just turned 21," Spurs general manager R.C. Buford said.

"We get the best of both worlds ? a potential project, as well as someone who has excelled at a very high level in a power conference."

Henry, Grizzlies Still Disagree On Deal

Jul 18, 2010 12:13 PM

Grizzlies rookie Xavier Henry sat out the summer league at the urging of his agent, Arn Tellem, because he couldn't come to terms on a contract.

NBA rookies are slotted into a salary, a value that can be negotiated between 80 and 120 percent.

Memphis offered Henry 100 percent of the rookie scale and has proposed that the additional 20 percent be earned through bonuses.

It has been customary for rookies to receive 120 percent of the rookie scale without having to clear hurdles.
