Monmouth Suspends Four Players Indefinitely

Jan 5, 2011 5:18 PM

Monmouth University has been suspended four players indefinitely for academic reasons.

Coach Dave Calloway announced Tuesday that four of his players -- juniors Will Campbell, Gary Cox and Matt Pritchett, and freshman Jordan Davis have been suspended.

"The university holds its student-athletes to higher academic standards than the NCAA," Calloway said. "The Monmouth Athletics Department has a strong graduation rate across the board for good reason, and that is due to academic support services we have in place.

"This is part of the learning process for each of them. It is more important that they learn from this experience and graduate from Monmouth University rather than play basketball at the present time. We will continue to work with these students to make sure they complete their degree requirements."

Campbell is the second-leading scorer on the team with an 8.6 average.

Miss. St Lifts Bailey, Sidney Suspensions; Bailey To Transfer

Jan 4, 2011 9:18 AM

Mississippi State has reinstated forwards Elgin Bailey and Renardo Sidney, who were suspended indefinitely last month for their fight in the stands at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.

Bulldogs coach Rick Stansbury said Bailey was seeking a transfer and had asked for and been granted a release from the team.

"I wish him the best as he moves on," Stansbury said in a statement. "He's worked extremely hard for us during his time here. Elgin has had to deal with some very tough injuries, but he's worked very hard to get to where he is now. Wherever he ends up, I hope he's able to have a lot of success."

Bailey, a junior, has averaged 5.8 points and 4.3 rebounds in 12 games this season.

Sidney, a highly touted McDonald's All-American, sat out all of last season while awaiting clearance from the NCAA due to eligibility issues.
