I'm looking forward to the 4 upcoming games with LA. It's time to see what this team is made of.

I agree,a series win would be nice, but a split will work as well.

We always seem to play the Angels nicely and I think a split is coming our way.

A's Vs. Angels

Battle for first.

Game Time:
7:05 Pacific Time

Records:
Athletics: 16-10
Angels:16-10

Stadium:

Chad Gaudin

RHP
(2-1) 3.38 ERA

A's: Gaudin, who had surgery on his left hip and right foot on the same day in December and missed most of Spring Training, ripped through the Minnesota lineup in short order on Wednesday in his fourth start of the season. He allowed four singles without a walk and struck out four, throwing 83 pitches before leaving after the seventh. Gaudin recently stopped bringing his hands over his head to start his windup in an effort to maintain eye contact with his target, and since making the change, he's allowed one earned run on eight hits while striking out 12 and walking one over 14 innings to pick up his first two wins.

SEATTLE -- The A's are matching the Angels this season, as much in the standings as they are in the trainer's room.

Both teams have had a crucial injuries to the pitching staff. The Angels have been without John Lackey and Kelvim Escobar all season because of injuries.

The A's also have had Rich Harden (shoulder) for just two starts this season, while Justin Duchscherer spent 20 days on the DL (right biceps strain) and Chad Gaudin, who starts Monday against the Angels, came of the disabled list April 7 after a pair of offseason surgeries.

Jon Garland

RHP
(3-2) 5.04 ERA

Angels: Searching for a consistent groove, Garland was rolling along in good fashion before leaving a pitch inside to David Ortiz for a two-run homer in Fenway Park. He departed with a 5-4 lead, having yielded four earned runs on eight hits in six innings, and gained credit for the win. Garland has struggled against the A's in his career, going 3-8 with a 4.58 ERA in 13 outings. He's 1-1 with a 7.15 ERA in two home starts for the Angels.

ANAHEIM -- A dynamic offense runs into a formidable pitching staff when the Angels and A's get together for the first time this season in a duel of American League West rivals and title contenders.

While the Angels have been taking their place with the Red Sox and Tigers among the AL's elite offenses, blending power with speed, the surprising A's have flourished with the league's best team ERA. The Angels are ninth in that department.

Nowhere is the study of contrasts more evident than in the power category. The A's have 12 home runs as a team through 26 games. The Angels have 27 homers, with eight coming from one position -- catcher.

14-2 A's. God I have not seen us do this good offensively this year, and maybe last year.

Some good pitching that's going to come against Baltimore and it's probably going to be over looked by the league. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Pitching Match-up

Athletics:

Justin Duchscherer, RHP (3-1, 2.45)

Indians:

Paul Byrd, RHP (1-3, 4.28)

Scouting Report:

A's: Duchscherer tossed a career-high-tying seven innings against the Orioles in his fourth start of the season and ninth of his career. The former setup man proved he belongs in the starting rotation, throwing seven effective innings while using only 85 pitches (56 for strikes) to limit Baltimore to two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four. Duchscherer faced Cleveland just once last year, pitching a scoreless inning in a relief appearance. In his career, he is 0-2 with a 6.48 ERA against the Indians.

Indians: Byrd has had an up and down season, because he can't seem to consistently keep the ball in the park. He has been hammered for 10 home runs in the early going, including the three he served up in a loss to the Yankees in his last start on May 8. In that game, he had trouble getting the ball down and away, and he was burned for five runs on eight hits with no walks or strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

How big has Frank Thomas been since coming here? I'd imagine the Jays can't be too happy...

Mench is hitting in the .140s, Stairs is in the low .200s for May...

Big Hurt hitting .339 w/4 HR and 13 RBI... .420 OBP, .997 OPS.

Welcome back Big Hurt  Glad we could get you your next paycheck, again :D
