Changing RealGm's Platform?

Post#1 » by LivingLegend » Thu Mar 24, 2022 1:01 pm

Just stopped by to ask if the Admin would ever be open to changing the platform for this website? I use different message boards and there are others out there that are far more intuitive w/more features for embedding tweets/videos/images into posts and look a more modern.

Ive been around here for quite some time and it seems like this platform that RealGM is on is quite outdated and could use a refresh. The looks/functionality of this board definitely screams 2005 and not 2022.

Would it be possible to migrate over to something more updated/modern with more features like Invision Boards?

Heres a link I dug up if any Mods/Admins want to take a look...its only $49/mo for a base package with unlimited posts/members--cant be that much more expensive that whatever the cost for phpBB is

I tried this years ago, I think the reason was it would be way too much money because of the scope of the migration

RealGM has over 43 million posts and over 140 thousand users

I 100% disagree with your comment. I have ran several message forums almost the same size as this and it took several hours to migrate but besides the forum software, it did not cost a penny more.

The reason RFealGM will not change is because they are lazy. This forum software makes me hate this forum and with the added pop ups, Redditt is so much better than this garbage website

It took several hours to migrate a DB of this size to a new software that would almost certainly require schema changes?

I call BS on that.

I would "And 1" this post but I can't because I am on a smartphone and the RealGM app and Windows experience are completely different... and both are outdated.

The problem with Reddit is the quality of discussion is far worse. Many more casuals, gatekeeping, a total hivemind experience on any basketball sub, well pretty much every sub on the entire website.
