Gordon Hayward Has Screws Removed, Will Resume Basketball Activities In 6-8 Weeks

May 30, 2018 9:31 PM

Gordon Hayward today underwent successful surgery to remove the plate and screws that were implanted following the broken fibula he suffered on October 17.

Hayward’s ankle and fibula are both structurally sound, and the removal of the plate and screws was necessary as they were causing irritation to his peroneal tendons.

Hayward is scheduled to return to basketball activities in six to eight weeks, and is expected to be at full strength for the start of training camp.

Celtics Hope Gordon Hayward Can Resume Basketball Activities In Summer

May 28, 2018 7:16 PM

The Boston Celtics are hopeful Gordon Hayward will be able to resume full basketball activities this summer.

Hayward is recovering from a dislocated ankle suffered in the season opener.

"Gordon is progressing well," Ainge said. "He's on the court now, finally doing a little bit of competition, like just one-on-one. And he'll progress along that line slowly. We think that he'll be playing basketball in the next couple months."

Ainge admitted it had to be hard for Kyrie Irving and Hayward watch Boston's playoff run without them.

"I don't think any of us can really understand," Ainge said. "That never really happened to me as a player, so I'm not sure I understand, but I could see it in their eyes all year when Gordon was out. It hurts to not be able to play, especially when the team was doing so well, and same thing with Kyrie."

Kyrie Irving Skipped Game 7 While Recovering From Nasal Surgery

May 28, 2018 7:13 PM

Kyrie Irving did not attend the Boston Celtics' Game 7 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers as he was recovering from nasal surgery.

"Kyrie had a deviated septum, had some surgery on that, and so I don't think he wanted to be seen," said Ainge, who turned playful while noting, "He's a really good-looking guy. He can't ruin his movie career."

Irving's agent, Jeff Wechsler, told ESPN's Jackie MacMullan that he wanted to attend the game but couldn't fly because of the surgery.

"It was a residual from the facial fracture he had earlier in the season," Wechsler said, referring to the injury Irving suffered in November. "He had the knee surgery, and now he's taken care of this sinus surgery, so he will be all set going forward."

Irving was ruled out for the season with knee surgery in April.

LeBron James: I Have Zero Level Of Concern After Game 1

May 14, 2018 11:33 AM

The Cavaliers were blown out by the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, but LeBron James remains optimistic about his team's chances.

“I have zero level of concern at this stage,” James said. “You get better throughout the series. You see ways you can get better throughout the series. But I’ve been down 0-1, I’ve been down 0- 2. I’ve been down before in the postseason. For me, there’s never no level of concern no matter how bad I played tonight with seven turnovers, how inefficient I was shooting the ball. I’m just as confident going into a series whether it’s a 0-0 series or I’m down 0-1. We have another opportunity to be better as a ball club coming in Tuesday night, and we’ll see what happens.”

Brad Stevens Told Celtics To 'Expedite Learning Curve', Not Use Youth As Excuse

May 11, 2018 11:15 AM

Brad Stevens called a meeting shortly after Gordon Hayward suffered a dislocated ankle and the Celtics completed an emotional three-games-in-four nights period.

Stevens warned the Celtics to not use their youth as an excuse.

"Expedite your learning curve," Stevens remembered saying. "If there's film to watch, or something you need to work on with a coach, go do it."

"This is my favorite Celtics team ever, in terms of energy, camaraderie and underdog spirit," Wyc Grousbeck said.

"This is a special team," Danny Ainge said. "This is as much fun as I've ever had."
